Making a video game with low budget

in games •  7 years ago  (edited)

Developing your own video games is the dream of many people, but aside from the question of whether you have the knowledge and the talent to do so, there is another question:

What does the development of games actually cost me?

Of course you need your own PC which should have a good equipment (mainboard, RAM, graphics card) depending on the type of game you are going to develop.

But the development tools are really expensive, aren't they?

I have summarized the answer to this question in a video and presented some of the tools I use myself, which are very powerful but inexpensive and often also available free of charge:

I have listed the most powerful but cheapest tools here (just IMHO):

Blender for modeling, sculpting or animation:
https://www.blender.org/

Unity, UE4 or Godot Game Engine
https://unity3d.com/de/
https://www.unrealengine.com
https://godotengine.org/

Krita or Medipaint for drawing
https://krita.org/
https://medibangpaint.com/

LMMS for Music & Sound
https://lmms.io/

Free game assets from the Unity assetstore or UE4 marketplace

So go ahead and start developing your first own video game, have fun!
