If you missed my post introducing Beyond the Void and you want to know more about the game, the team, the Nexium token or you are just interested in reading another one of my Steemit articles then you can find it here.
The Beta test is here you say… what’s that?
The Beyond the Void team have been hard at work for a few months now designing, creating, developing and to a certain extend (play) testing the game, but very few other people have had a chance to get their hands on the much-anticipated game; experience it and put it through its paces.
From the outset, the Beyond the Void team have set themselves a milestone of by Q1 of 2017, getting the game to a point where a small community audience can start playing the game in order for them to find bugs; give general, candid, feedback, test the scalability and generally just make the game the best possible product it can be before it is officially complete and shipped for all the world to play (currently slated for June 2017).
At this early stage, the team are running the Beta tests in short sessions and limiting the maximum number of people that can play at any one time to 50 players.
- The first session was help Today (22nd February) from 2PM to 5PM GMT.
- The next session will be held on Sunday 26th February from 2PM to 5PM GMT
Can anyone join in and play the game?
Most likely not. The early access, Beta test phase is only meant for the “Backers” of the game that helped fund the development of the game through the Nexium ICO
That said, it is still possible that you could be one of the few to get the opportunity to get early access to the game… but that all depending on the number of “Backers” that are interested in playing the Beta version of the game.
But don’t despair! After all, it benefits the Beyond the Void team to have people giving them feedback backers-or-not.
If you want to try your luck and join the queue of non-backers then you can register on this web page.
I’m a Backer… how can I play the game?
If you took part in the successful Nexium ICO back in November 2016 then congratulations you are officially a “Backer” and you are not only eligible to take part in the Beyond the Void Beta test now, but you will be at the front of the queue. That’s a nice warm fuzzy feeling, right?
The Beyond the Void team are keeping a “whitelist” of all of the email addresses that are eligible to take part in the Beta. In order to do that they are associating an email address with the Ethereum wallet addresses that participated in the ICO (the one that you used to send Ether to the fund raising Smart Contract back in November).
The process of registering your email address and proving that you are the owner of the Ethereum adddress is quite simple (and has been documented well by Manon on the forum). What you need to do is use the private key of the Ethereum address that sent Ether to the ICO contract to sign a message containing your email address and use the signed message to fill out the form that can be found here.
Through the wonders of Public-Private key cryptography, the resulting signed message has two very useful properties:
- It’s highly improbable that anyone without your Private key could generate the resulting hash by signing a different message – even with vast computational power.
- It’s very easy for anyone with the Public key to read the message by reversing the process of signing the message.
So, how did the first Beta testing session go?
Really well!
You can watch the recording of HasHe live streaming the game on Twitch to really get an understanding of how the game plays before the next Beta testing session on Sunday.
Are there any other resources to help me prepare for the Sunday session?
Yes, in fact there are a growing number of resources covering the basics of the game:
- HasHe (G Dee) has created a tutorial video on YouTube.
- A very detailed written guide on where to download the game and play it has been published.
**I’m looking forward to seeing some of you playing the game on Sunday! **
