The Platform Duo's Return Impresses

When Ratchet & Clank entered the Playstation 2 in 2002, it became an instant success. The game sold over 3.5 million copies and was acclaimed by critics for its astounding graphics, dynamic worlds and an insane arsenal of funny weapons. Since then, the hero duo's interplanetary adventure has been portrayed in just over a dozen followers and spin-offs. The latter with a highly varied reception from the gaming audience.

Fourteen years after the debut, Insomniac Games chooses to release a so-called new interpretation of the original, and that associated with the animated feature film that was released this April. Ratchet & Clank was announced in 2016 and contains a lot of new features regarding action, game mechanics and, not least, updated HD graphics. With some good will you could almost see the restart as a whole new game.

And it's a damn fun game

Quickly we are thrown into a colorful, high-octane adventure of galactic proportions. The characters, the new scenes and the story elements have a more powerful cinematic feeling than ever before, and skillfully perform the action in a child-friendly format.

Get ready to explore some tropical space resorts, this time in 4k!

We meet with a full-blown, eye-stunningly beautiful gaming experience that is difficult to put remarks on. Camera and controls finally sit as the mountain, the action sequences float with the slightest friction and the many (new) planets are exciting to explore and to find collectibles in the form of gold nuts and holo cards. It's just as fun as before to turn evil robot soldiers into sheep and get naughty aliens to dance disco before turning them into bolts with a well-placed hand grenade. The humor has always been an important part of the Ratchet & Clank series, and when frustrated, it is a 50/50 distribution between genuine appreciation and pure irritation over the joke's misery.

A childishly fun experience

Yes, Ratchet & Clank is a childish game to the greatest extent. Usually it's a positive thing, but still causes things to feel a bit flat sometimes. Nobody is dying really and the dialogue becomes a little bit flat in some instances. Sometimes the worries, problems and motivation of characters can also appear to be trivial - although the ultimate goal of the game is to save the entire galaxy from destruction.

The element of fun is found all throughout the game, from a disco-dancing giant boss to the witty comments between the duo.

The fact that the target group consists mostly of children does not have to prevent difficulty and drama of a more serious nature, now that Insomniac has inserted new elements into the action aspect of the game they are helping to counter this problem. If I scratch on the game's cozy well-polished surface, I also get somewhat disappointed by the few number of side tasks that are available on each respective planet. Even if it's fun searching for stuff, I would not say no to more challenges like the brilliant hoverboard race.

Sometimes we get to solve puzzles while playing our little favorite robot Clank.

Concluding

Ultimately, however, it is not possible to assume that Ratchet & Clank is an brutal-intense adrenaline kick. Whether you're snapping a flying giant's brain, jokingly jumping between the wagons on a roaring train or just enjoying the view from the top of a mountain, you'll be impressed by the impressive craftsmanship you're actually taking part in, even with the missing adrenaline rush. Both nostalgists and children and their parents have a lot to fetch by going back to the game's now super-improved roots.

Even if it's a game intended for all ages some boss battles are quite intense.

The 2016 edition of Ratchet & Clank is 12-15 very well-invested hours for those who want top-level platforming in the most joyful way. This is not just something they threw out there to withdraw extra cash in connection with a film launch, without a serious desire to give back to the older fans while hoping to also gain some new ones.

The Best

The humor
Beautiful graphics
Smooth controls
Fine flow in every moment
Something extra for the old fans

The Worst

The humor
Too few side assignments
Simple elements in the story & dialogues

Ok which one is better, Ratchet and Clank or Crash Bandicoot?!

I have to say Crash Bandicoot on that one because of the childish elements of Ratchet & Clank. I like the difficulty in Bandicoot more, but for old fans who played R&C in the early days you wouldn't wanna miss a nostalgic gaming trip in updated graphics!

Thanks for reading as always dude, appreciate it! =)

Haha finally! Everyone of my friends have said R&C, which never made since to me. I feel like they didn't play Crash growing up, because it seems like a no brainer to me haha

And of course my dog, you know I got you haha! I really enjoy your content and I think your going to be very successful on here if you stay consistent! Keep up the good work!

Coming out with a review on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided that i have been working on for a couple of days now, do out like those kind of games or mainly platformers? :)

Thats like a RPG stealth type game right? Yeah I mess with anything Square Enix to be honest! I've never played that one yet tho. I'm looking it up now and ign gave it 9.2, which peaked my interest for.

Yeah if you like stealth games with a futuristic digital feeling, it is a series to check out! :D

i think they are both cool and offer different experiences....kinda like Rayman too
It's like comparing street fighter and mortal combat...there are die hard fans for both and they will aways pick one over the other

Yea that's a great point, love Rayman to! :)

I played this game a long while ago ( more than 8years ago) and all I know is that I shut it down amd never touched it again.

Haha no it's not for everyone. It was in the early days of PS2 i suppose? I personally liked it as a child and enjoyed the updated version just for the nostalgic trip, but other than that i think the humor is a bit to childish and the storyline a bit to flat to earn any super recognition. An awesome game to play with your siblings, cousins or little brothers or something though. (or when high on some sweet weed, hehe)

Thanks for reading anyway :) Peace dude!

I can remember when I had extra money at the end of the month and thought "hey why don't you just buy that psp, never too old to play ;)".

Last thing I remember is that I flashed a CFW (Custom Firmware).
I'm not gonna explain what CFWs are since its quite self explaining and some lawyer might disagree ;).

I think that is the reason why I'm quite into flashing firmware and rooting (android today) and modifying because of that one memory.

But one game I loved back the was that Argumented Reality game where you needed a camera.
That was quite impressive to be honest since I never saw something like this.
Do you know the name of that game? Something with visables , sorry i don't know.

I like that you study tech but playing too much games and smoking weed every day makes people passive. Too much changes leading in new world order needs pasive people to do nothing about it.

When i started smoking weed i was everything but passive! Bought every book on the illuminati from "stop the fed" to "the creature of jekyll island" but after feeling bad about how the world was for 5 years and trying to tell everyone what i had learned(and everyone just think your crazy) you just move on in life.
I have studied daily, philosophy, economics, history and technology (programming & hardware) during about 10 years while daily smoking weed (not so passive huh?), so do not just assume that everyone becomes passive & don't do anything just because that's your experience with it, it's highly personal how you react.

Me and my friends even organized a "Free Julian Assange" event during a Stockholm tech even here in Sweden where i told his story and tried to teach as many people as possible, but that was a couple of years ago. My only point is that weed does not make you a mindless sheep, being able to not independently think is what will get you there.

Ok i like you better already but i think you must read about diss info agent asange here part 1 That is controled alternative info misleading people https://steemit.com/wikileaks/@steemtruth/deconstructing-julian-assange-and-wikileaks-his-childhood-in-a-cult
