Phantasy Star Online - The First Gaming-Console MMO

My love for the game Phantasy Star Online has been very true in my heart since i first tried it. This was the first MMO for a gaming console, made by Sega - for the Dreamcast. I remember playing the Japanese beta and then later on buying the full game, playing with friends online with an old dial-up modem, not super fast or super quick but still worked pretty good for it's time.

I later played it's sequel that came out to the GameCube, a console not exactly known for it's online-capacities but still did the job. When the title later came out to the Xbox 360 it felt just lame, boring and dull, only partly thanks to the game itself though.

But let's rewind back to the GameCube-era again, where i played Episode 1 & 2 and also tried the card-based Episode 3 (didn't like it though). As you would always play in a group with other players it was natural that you would want an easy way to communicate with your friends. Easier said than done, a controller filled with keys and emotes came as the answer.

ASCII PSO control

It was not the easiest controller to use and the keyboard was hard to write on, but not entirely hopeless. Imagine netbooks, if you remember them, then you'll have an great picture of how the ASCII:s PSO-control felt to use.

Fast forward to year 2017 and Nintendo is releasing the Switch, the future of the ASCII PSO controller.

Looks familiar doesn't it?

The Joycons are at least new, and they are awesome as they are detachable and comfortable!

When seeing the Switch and ASCII side to side, it's pretty hard to not draw parallels between the designs. The Switch is a bit more logical though, in the way that you can click your Joycons to the side and remove them when needed, much more smooth and feels familiar as we are used to playing hand-held games this way.

A new version of Phantasy Star Online for the Switch would be more than awesome, many of you probably haven't heard about the title as it was never released here in the west, just in Japan. It's not very likely that a remake to the Switch of PSO will happened, but a gamer can still have wet dreams, right?

I tried Phantasy Star for the xbox 360 and didn't know where to start haha. I think I would have liked it, if I had a squad!

Speaking of which, please get destiny 2 for ps4 so we can get these raids popping!

Oh and that gamecube controller looked fake af! Did they really exist?! And he new switch controller looks dope af ahaha

Yea I owned one of them :) Or own*, just gotta find it in the chaos that is called my basement, haha! They where only sold in Japan though, so you had to import them, many missed them or just discarded them because of that.

Currently I'm totally hooked AF on Overwatch, you play any OW? :))
