I shoot 9 shots at point blank into the first guy, 4 would have killed him, but he continues on, until shortly after the lag spike. Then the "Network Lag" overlay appears on screen just as the next walks up, temporarily pausing the game. You can imagine me spamming my mouse and screaming in fright to spectating friend. The moment ends and I finish him.
