Fortnite Battle Royal: Is It Worth Playing!?

in gaming •  7 years ago

Fortnite Battle Royal launched on the 26th of this week. In the first day they had over a million users. Now, the bulk of that came from a very similar game in the form of Pubg(Player Unknown's Battleground). But, a consistent amount of the users were first time players in the Battle Royal system which I will explain in a minute. The most surprising element of all in that first day was consistent uptime on the servers and a seemingly smooth transition from their base game into this F2P pvp game they have setup. Why, you might ask? Epic Games is the creators of the unreal engine and also for quite some time now has been helping Pubg with optimization on almost the exact same style of gameplay. They came into this with full knowledge of what they needed to do to deliver a great game experience. And, believe me, it was glorious!

SETTING:

Now, the Battle Royal is a battleground that consists of one hundred occupants in a large scale map that ever increasingly becomes smaller. The object of the game is to be the last man standing. There is cooperative play in a different mode but for the simplistic approach we will stick to the formula of 99 vs 1. After the small wait in queue you are teleported into the party bus which is a massive bus floating across the map via a large balloon. When the timer reaches zero, you are ejected and parachuted to a landing point of your desired location. You can bail out sooner and try for a more choicer spot early, but beware the tide of other players wishing death upon you when you land.

ARSENAL:

The first thing you will notice about Fornite's Battle Royal system is the multitude of weapons at your disposal. From handguns, grenades, rocket launchers, sniper rifles to zapper traps and much more, Fortnite delivers on all fronts with the variety of mayhem you can deliver out on the open playing field. Not only is there an over-abundance of weapon types but also rarity. From common, to uncommon, rare and even epic, the sheer amount of toss-up on RNG will have any Diabloesque looter drooling over opening a chest to see what is inside. If that isn't good enough, you take what you kill or even take from others kills. So, whatever weaponry the ill-fated combatant may have had is now up for the takings. Also, each weapon has a unique distance and hitbox that will fluctuate when you are moving or sitting still and taking the time to master this may well be the biggest challenge in Fortnite Battle Royal.

Difficulty:

When I think of Fortnite, I think of games like Overwatch or Paladins. The gameplay is frantic and can be tactical but the enjoyment is there from novice to pro. One of the greatest achievements of any game is being titled, "easy to pick-up and hard to master". Fortnite Battle Royal is the epitome of that statement and with the easy to look at cartoon animations of the players and the model being Free-To-Play, this game will continue to gain steam over time and very well next year we may be talking about this game in context to Counter-Strike, Pubg, Overwatch and other greats of the always redefining FPS genre.

As always, I have a gameplay video that you are welcome to check out. Any support on Youtube is greatly appreciated since I have been adversely affected by the Adpocalypse or follow me here. Either way, I appreciate the support. Have a great day gaming!

I had a great time playing this yesterday. Although my old computer was struggling with some lag issues. Don't forget about the crafting. It will be interesting to see what things will be implemented in what you can build. I haven't looked into it but it only seems like you can build structures to hide in. Where is that turret gun?!?!
Good post!

Right. Turret guns would definitely be something to add. My only concern is that they don't monetize the weapon outputs and keep things strictly cosmetic. Which, from what I've researched they aren't going to put any P2W elements in a shop on this, but you know things can change.

Damn that looks super cool, congrats on 9th, I'd generally fall in the first 10 down I'm sure. PUBG must be super pissed their formula is being ripped off before they make their console debut, but I guess all is fair in video games?

Well, we knew someone was going to copy it. Didn't expect the same people that helped to optimize Pubg would be the one to sneak in and mimic. I was half expecting some kind of announcement at Blizzcon from Blizzard since this style of mode fits right up their alley of "making it better". Lol, in a way Epic beat Blizzard to the punch! :P
