Just a few weeks ago I finished Final Fantasy VI, it is the first FF I had played that belongs to the old generation, I had read and heard the opinions of many people who cataloged it even better than FFVII and to my surprise, FFVI is a spectacular game.

I have said in several of my Review: Final Fantasy IX, is my favorite FF and one of my favorite RPG in general. But after having played FFVI, I sincerely believe that can change.

Today a Retro Review of one of the best Final Fantasy that gave us the old generation: Final Fantasy VI.

In Final Fantasy I saw tell us that 1000 years ago in the past, we are in a world where there are two races: Humans and Espers. The Espers were a powerful race, capable of using high level magic, on the other hand humans felt the need to use the Espers as weapons, so a war between these two races of such magnitude began that the world was left in total destruction, the end of this war caused the surviving Espers to go to another dimension to live, leaving the other world under the control of the human race and likewise leaving a world without magic.

Over the centuries in this new world ruled by humans, recovered and managed to redo what had previously been destroyed as a result of war, again prosperity and peace had returned. In this new world we can find machines that worked with steam, it was totally an industrialized world, in the pure Steampunk style.

Magic became a sensitive subject among the people of that world, due to the atrocities committed centuries ago. However, The Empire belonging to this world, aims at world domination through the use of magic, so they intend to awaken the magic once again, to be able to fulfill its objective. At this point in the story is where Terra appears, a young woman who has the ability to use magic, just as the Espers, Terra is being enslaved by The Empire, due to her great magical abilities.

Terra is the first heroine of Final Fantasy, she has a great magic power, because she is half human and half Espers and although in FFVI, we have the possibility to control many characters, each with a personality type and with great charisma, being all these excellent characters, the truth is that I consider Terra as the main protagonist of this specific game, for all that it represents.

Final Fantasy VI unlike other games in the series, has large amounts of stories and sub-stories, where each is represented by a specific character, for many people it would be a little exaggerated to put so many protagonists in this story, but is that each argument that tells part of the history of these characters, is explained correctly, even the development of these characters is done well, where each, has a degree of importance throughout the game in general.

It is even worth noting that the same FFVI antagonist has a greater degree of importance than other FF villains. Kefka, is the main villain of this game, and without wanting to hurt feelings, I must admit that I seemed a better villain than Sephiroth, and that's saying a lot about this character, Kefka is a villain that could be defined as pure evil, all his actions during the game are based on his desire to obtain power, but not only that, but also for the mere pleasure of causing evil, is a character that gives off evil of his whole being, a character devoid of any human aspect, one of the best villains in the Final Fantasy saga by far.

Final Fantasy was graphically the common thing that it looked at those times, but they do not stop being good in spite of its graphic simplicity. In this game they opted for a Steampunk style, a feature that I personally like a lot and there are few games that are inspired by this style, Final Fantasy VI knew how to represent that style in each scenario where it is seen, we can also find villages where their style is not very different from other games of this genre, I want to believe that it is an aspect that they want to keep in this kind of games, we can also find the typical dungeons infested with large numbers of enemies to defeat, enemies that likewise have a pretty good design quality and modeling that, despite being simple, they are quite good at what the game represents us.

The design of the characters stands out more in comparison to the other graphic aspects of this game, these have a very well developed sprite design, where it is normal for them to devote a greater time of design and detail because they are characters that they should stand out above the rest, these have different types of animations such as something as simple as: blinking and extra movements compared to others, these simple details gives more life and charisma to this great game.

Final Fantasy VI is a game that should not be wasted, or underestimated due to its graphic quality, for many people who do not know how to appreciate the potential that can be found in this game, they would leave it aside for the simple fact of not having spectacular graphics, as in the games that can be seen today, but the truth is that Final Fantasy VI, leaving aside its graphic aspect, has some of the best arguments of all the Final Fantasy saga and a better plot than many of the current games.

Undoubtedly my favorite aspect of Final Fantasy is its soundtrack, all the FF that I have had the pleasure of playing, have a soundtrack worthy of being called masterpieces, they have the ability to convey a lot of feelings and emotions. But it is not surprising the great musical quality that this game has, because this soundtrack was composed by the great Nobuo Uematsu, without doubt this man is a master in the musical composition, it should be noted that the main theme of Terra, is It is considered one of the best in the Final Fantasy series and I could not agree more, although to be honest, my favorite is Vivi from FFIX. But listen to the soundtrack of FFVI and judge it yourself:

The first Fantasy Final that I played was FFIX, and obviously there is a big change compared to FFVI, especially in its difficulty, in my opinion FFVI is a game with an easy level of difficulty and its gameplay is quick to learn. As it is common in these games the level up will be a key piece when facing certain bosses that we meet while we play, because in the bosses the degree of difficulty if it is presented a little higher compared to the game in general, where we must apply certain strategies when fighting with them, to be able to eliminate them in the fastest possible way.

Something that can never be missing in the RPG, are the classic dungeons where we will find large numbers of enemies to defeat, these dungeons will serve largely as areas of leveling and obtaining objects to help us later, likewise in these dungeons we can always find equipment and weapons that are hidden in certain places.

Something that characterizes FFVI is the large number of playable characters that we have at our disposal, in total are 14 characters, therefore makes the gameplay of FFVI is varied, due to the large number of objectives that we can make with these characters, besides that each character is very different from each other, that is, each of them have their own group of movements and abilities, we can also improve the magic of each character by using certain special objects, this gave a great level of customization seen in few RPG games of the time.

FFVI is a game to which you have to spend a lot of time, we will surely spend many hours raising the level of our characters, improving their magic and getting the best team to be able to advance among the most difficult dungeons found in this great game, in some cases It can be overwhelming to spend so many hours of play going up improving our character, but it's worth doing.

After I finished playing Final Fantasy VI, I had some doubts that I would beat FFIX on my list of my favorite Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy IX, was the first one I played in the whole series, therefore I have a great fondness for his characters as in his incredible soundtrack, and Final Fantasy VI is the first that I played from the previous generation, and I certainly liked it very much, if I had to put a place on my list of my Final Fantasy Favorites, I would put it on par with the IX, clearly followed by FFVII ( that has nothing to envy to any other game).

For people who never had the intention Final Fantasy VI, do it and do not get carried away by its graphic quality, because we all must know, that the graphics do not dictate the quality of a game, but rather the way we present the world, its plot and above all (although it is a very personal aspect) its soundtrack.

You definitely started with the best of the old generation, which might make it harder to appreciate 1-5! Good luck :)

I will definitely play the first five Final Fantasy, but after a few months. Thank´s my friend.

probably this is the best revision of FF that you have done in my opinion, not only its soundtrack is good but everything that represents this saga in general, I have only played 2 FF and is very likely to encourage me to do 2 review on them , for everything that this game represents for us players.

Excellent review @freddbrito

Thank´s! I recommend FFIX too.
