The hype for the latest Destiny 2 DLC, Forsaken continues! Bungie surprised gamers last week at Gamescom in Germany with the news that they will release a preview of the new game mode, Gambit for 24 hours on September 1. I just woke up from an about 6 hour gaming grind that only included playing this new game mode!

My first tries at the game mode were horrible as I was alone playing with other match-made players on my team. This is truly a game mode that needs coordination and communication, not just skills with a controller. It is a hybrid PvE and PvP game mode that is truly engaging as it is fast pace and all decisions have repercussions for the round.

The purpose of the game mode is to defeat AI enemies to capture motes they drop. The first team to 75 motes forces a Boss to spawn. The first team to defeat the Boss wins the round. Seems simple but what happens in between is the challenge. First, by depositing blocks of motes, you force a mini-boss spawn on the other team’s side which difficulty level depends on the amount deposited. The other team will be blocked from depositing motes until these mini-bosses are defeated. Also, every 25 motes deposited allows your team to send a player to the other team’s side to make it harder for them to collect and deposit motes. If in any battle you are defeated, you loss your motes and need to start over again. Lastly, when the final boss spawns, the portal opens more often to send players over. If you defeat enemy players, it provides health to the Boss which makes it more difficult to defeat.

It is an intense game mode that truly takes the best side of the game together. It also needs plenty of team work in order to be successful which is why my experience changed so much when I started playing with my friends. Once we team up as a full team of four, we never lost a game the rest of the night. It was also the first time we played Destiny for such a long time! Not since the Kings Fall raid have we been so engaged in an activity within Destiny. I think this show the potential of the upcoming Forsaken expansion.

Thanks!
