  • Campo Santo, the developers of 2016's Firewatch, have been bought by Valve
  • The developments occurred a day ago, and were discussed by Campo Santo on their Blog
  • The next game will be developed under the Valve banner going into 2019
On Sunday AEST, it was annnounced by Campo Santo via Blog Post that the independent team will be joining Valve, the Washington based company behind Steam, DOTA 2, CS:GO and the raved Half-Life Series.

The Blog Post reads 'The twelve of us at Campo Santo have agreed to join Valve, where we will maintain our jobs as video game developers and continue production on our current project, In the Valley of Gods'.

'We really like making video games... ... we really like making and producing entertainment. From the day-to-day production of our last game, Firewatch, to the way we run the company'.

The developments come almost a year after Valve announced its last game, Artifact, a card game extension from the DOTA 2 Canon, and even longer since Valve's last release of a full game, being DOTA 2 in 2013.

The blog post continues 'In Valve we found a group of folks who, to their core, feel the same way about the work they do... ... in us, they found a group with unique experience and valuable, diverse perspectives. It quickly became an obvious match.'

The Studio also touched on that they had 'a series of conversations with the people at Valve' about the development of games, and how time is a hard limit. The studio will be moving to Washington with their development of In the Valley of Gods. Here's the announcement trailer for that.

This isn't a foreign move for Valve - the company has a long history of acquiring talent and titles - DOTA, CS:GO and TF2 each were hallmark mods in the modding communities for Warcraft, Half-Life and Quake, and developers hired by Valve in the past have had histories in these communities, such as Minh Lee in Counter Strike.

This time, it appears Valve is looking for an experience-narrative-based team to wave the Valve banner high.

Wave it high - Valve is due for a return to games.
