A new job listing at Blizzard suggests that the developer is working on a new PvP focused game.
The developer has recently posted a new job listing looking for a Senior or Principal Designer
"with experience in developing weapons, abilities, and gameplay systems in action or first-person shooter games." The most interesting part of the listing is that the applicant must have an "absolute passion for playing and creating PvP game experiences."
Alongside this information, the listing also reveals that the game will have a high focus on competitive multiplayer.
"You have proven experience in game design, a strong aptitude for critical thinking and analysis, outstanding people skills, boundless creativity, and extensive knowledge and passion for competitive first-person shooter games."
Details of the listing also suggest that the game will include player characters that will have abilities similar to those found in another popular Blizzard title, Overwatch. "As a Senior or Principal Designer, you'll work with numerous departments to shape the core gameplay experience for this unannounced project by defining the abilities, powers, and weapons our players will use."
Over the past two years, several job listings have appeared on Blizzards careers page looking for developers to work on an untitled shooter. Now, with the latest listing, we finally have some more details about what exactly this game will be. Since Blizzard has been hiring for the title for the past two years, hopefully, we hear some more substantial news in the near future.
Considering the triumph of Overwatch, it makes sense that Blizzard would want to create something in a similar vein in the hopes that it finds the same level of success. As of late 2017, Overwatch reached over 35 million players and has had several new maps and heroes added to the game since its release. The game's popularity is greatly reflected by the recent launch of The Overwatch League, a dedicated esports tournament created by Blizzard Entertainment. In the tournaments first week, it attracted 10 million viewers throughout several different streaming services, which is an average of 280 thousand viewers per minute.
With a player base that large, a new and successful esports tournament, and considering how dedicated the Blizzard fan-base is, the developer understands that they can make some serious cash off developing more PvP multiplayer games. Though the job listing suggests a game very similar to Overwatch, hopefully, Blizzard implements enough features and gameplay mechanics that differentiate it from their other title.
Let's hope that this game would be as good as overwatch
