CD Projekt Red, developers of the Witcher series, have trademarked their new IP, Cyberpunk 2077, just in time for E3. The trademark was filed on Monday with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. While the game was announced over five years ago, there is little information beyond the teaser trailer. However, with the company's overwhelming success following the Witcher 3, their new Sci-Fi game might appear at E3. Gematsu is reporting that CD Projekt Red is booking hour long sessions with the press and telling outlets they will show a Sci-Fi RPG.
While there are few details surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, what CD Projekt Red have revealed is very exciting. The Sci-Fi RPG is loosely based off Mike Pondsmith's popular tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020, set 57 years later. In a world where cybernetic enhancements and technology are completely integrated into humanity, society is divided into various classes. The United States have entered bankruptcy and the geographical borders have completely broken down through Balkanisation. Gangs and old world governments battle for control while mega-corporations rule over society. It is an interesting take on the Blade Runner Sci-Fi dystopia.
There aren't many gameplay details revealed, but it will be an open world RPG. Players will create their own customisable character, unlike Geralt and the Witcher series. The game is set in the futuristic metropolis of Night City, California. Cybernetic enhancements will play a significant part in player customisation, similar to the Deus Ex series. Some of these will include combat and weapon perks, while others include exploration changes like language translators. There are various factions and agendas for players to align with. Like the Witcher series, player choice will play a significant role in shaping the story. CD Projekt Red have confirmed that there are multiple endings based on these choices.
A few months ago, CD Projekt Red stated they had reached a significant milestone in development. Hopefully this means some details will be revealed this E3. The game is confirmed for PC, where the Witcher 1 and 2 pushed the standard for video games to new limits. With the release of the Witcher 3 on consoles, it is a possibility that it will be developed for Xbox One and PS4. However, CD Projekt Red are PC developers who often don't hold back for console limitations. A later console port like the Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360 is a possibility.
Strange that the one thing I can't wait to see from Cyberpunk 2077 the most is whether or not it has something to do with Ciri.
It's been over 5 years in development, with bigger development team than TW3, in a new studio dedicated to that project alone. I mean, I know it's better not to get hyped over upcoming games these days, but man, can't be helped lol.

Definitely one of the most interesting games in development. I am very intrigued by those language translation enhancements. According to reports they vary in quality. Meaning that if they aren't fully upgraded you can only understand part of what is being said.
Let's hope this will be at E3!
