There are a lot of good games for the newest virtual reality systems on the market today. Sadly these games while fun, usually lack in having multiple hours of content and are still trying to develop the "prototype" phase of the VR market. This list is comprised of ten games we think would fair well on virtual consoles, or just provide new innovative VR experiences. Welcome Geeks to the TOP 10 Gamers We Want In VR!
10. 7 Days To Die
Who needs minecraft anymore? There are a ton of crafting based games, and one that I personally quite enjoy is 7 Days to Die. It has a very advanced and fun crafting system allowing for complex base building, weapon creation, and even hacked up vehicles. It also is quite challenging when playing in non-creation modes with players being over-run by zombies, dying of starvation, and even developing sicknesses. 7 Days to Die is not the prettiest game in the world so it might actually feel more at home in the virtual reality world. Having a full degree of motion and control when trying to create complex bases would be a breeze in VR. On top of that if you so happen to start being nibbled upon by a dead friend, VR would make it very easy to quickly direct your attention to putting another zombie back to its grave. Tell-Tale we would love if you could bring this game to VR, it would breath new life into the game and I guarantee it would increase the player base. There is a lot of people always craving more awesome VR content especially open ended experiences.
9. Need For Speed
The Need for Speed series has scene some ups and downs in the last decade. However the last two games have really had some great game-play focused around intense action. With my personal favorite of the last two being Rivals do to being able to play two different story modes either as an Enforcer (cop) or a Street Racer. Right now we have seen a few racing games on the VR scene such as Driveclub VR and Dirt Rally to name a few, but what we really want is a full feldged open world street racer in virtual reality! Need for Speed does technically have a VR game already branded as No Limits, but this a low poly-count mobile game and is far from the full fledged NFS experience. EA is usually focused on cycling its properties every couple of years, and we would all love to see the newest iteration of the franchise (NFS: PAYBACK) have some virtual love!
8. Dying Light
Dying Light mixes a lot of amazing things from the modern gaming era into one big package. You have a large degree of freedom due to the parkour free running mechanics heavily implemented in the game and a massive zombie infested world to use your high speed and agility in. The game is heavily melee focused, and really whats better then bashing a zombies brains in? Actually being able to craft a weapon from random things you find in the game world to do the said bashing is pretty epic. While this game would be far from an easy to stomach VR title, it would be very amazing to be able to hold on to ledges and look around in VR for your next area to jump to. It might be noted that this would be a game I would be more then happy to have a barf bag ready for, because it sounds pretty cool to be a parkour mastermind all while avoiding zombies or using my electric machete I made to dismember them. If not Dying Light maybe when they raise Dead Island 2 from the grave they can implement some virtual reality functionality.
7. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
Final Fantasy XIV is a large open world and massively multiplayer online role playing game. Despite it's initial launch costing Square Enix enormous amounts of loss due to its lack of content and a horrible user interface, managed to re-launch as A Realm Reborn with new pretty much everything fixed and manage to become one of the best MMORPGs of all time. With hundreds if not thousands of hours of exploration, dungeons, and raids to some of us geeks it seems like a perfect place for virtual reality. It may not be possible from a technical sense due to the large amount of processing power needed to generate the potentially hundreds of players on screen at one time. However what is possible would be making a separate server for VR gamers that heavily focuses on instanced events so there is a limited number of players loaded at any given time. This would also be an extremely fun way to re-visit raids that you have become burnt out on and really allow you to become more personal with the character that you've built. Also considering you can have in- game wedding ceremonies now, virtual reality would make the special day one you won't forget. Just save some Energy for the honey moon ;).
6. Amnesia Collection
Amnesia has made a number of YouTube gamers very famous, even lord PEWDIEPIE's gameplay of Amnesia helped him gain massive popularity. Lets be completely honest, both of the Amnesia games a freaking terrifying, but this is exactly why they are perfect for virtual reality. Sure as you spend more time seeing monsters or don't have your lamp on the disorienting visuals of you slowly being driven mad would make you want to pass out in VR. However won't it be a little funny when someone walks in to you passed out with a vr headset on in a pool of your own vomit and poop from the multitude of jump scares and disorienting visuals of macabre? We sure would love to see it!
5. Souls Series
The Souls series is loved by many for its harrowing boss battles, and need for precise level memorization and combat efficiency. What would make the boss battles more epic then the added level of depth perception and intrigue of being in the game! Also making some of these great and challenging games to the VR platform may make more "hardcore" gamers willing to adopt the platform. While Dark Souls would be a joy in VR, it might not be so fun to rage quit, smashing your $400+ headset into the wall.. So maybe it's good they haven't made this one compatible.
4. Until Dawn (Original)
When the Playstation VR was announced and we all found out that there was going to be an Until Dawn game (named Rush of Blood), excitement sprung out due to Until Dawn already having a very cinematic and story driven narrative it would make a perfect candidate for a port to virtual reality. Sadly when gamerz like myself found out the game was going to depart from this to focus on a fast action on-rails shooter, we were a little disappointed. While Until Dawn: Rush of Blood was a very fun game and great in it's own unique way, its disconnect from the gameplay of original and only light story connections made fans of the original wanting more. In general most Until Dawn fans want another game and I too hope to see a sequel, but this time around with full VR integration. We won't be sad if developer Supermassive Games want to test it out on the original first though. Even if it was paid DLC, I really just love to crap my pants a little.
3. Elder Scrolls Online
With the announcement of Skyrim coming to VR, it only seems reasonable to make a mode in the the massively multi-player version of Tamriel come to life in virtual reality as well. As said earlier with Final Fantasy XIV, it may not be feasible due to hardware constraints, but it would certainly be a joy to play through the game with a party of four to eight players in VR. Also considering ESO is one of the more solo-able MMOs out there, it would just be fun to run around picking up all your crafting materials and would actually make crafting in the game a lot more fun and intuitive. Merging an Elder Scrolls game, MMO, and VR experience may however be a little weird when your mom walks in and realizes you've super glued the headset to your face and want her to call you XxDragonBornxX from now on.
2. Alien Isolation
One of the best sci-fi horror films of all time transitioned to a beautiful survival horror game in 2014. Don't listen to the idiot who reviewed this game for IGN, the game has great graphics, tense gameplay, and brings the strange world of the Alien Franchise to life. The movie isn't an absolutely terrifying experience due to watching characters being hunted and having a disconnect of control of the events occurring; Alien: Isolation bridges that gap putting you in the spot of having to fight off and hide from this foe that you stand no chance against. This alone makes the game experience far more terrifying and unpredictable when compared to the movie. All this being said, the gameplay has some key similarities to the latest Resident Evil game which worked horrifyingly well in VR. I may be stuck hiding in a locker or under a desk for a couple hours at a time, but avoiding an up close and personal encounter with the monstrous Xenomorph would be worth it.
1. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Bethesda has been hard at work adopting the virtual reality community and showing them love. With full featured games like Skyrim an Fallout 4 being transformed into VR worlds, they really are helping the world realize how fun and game changing the technology is! Which brings us to Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, it being the sequel to the hit reboot of the Wolfenstein series. Bethesda we love what you are doing making as many game world VR compatible, but can we please launch the VR version in conjunction with the standard edition (I know development takes lots of work)! This fast paced shooter would be UBER fun when combined with VR. So please if it's feasible to do this on the playstation, do it because you Bethesda could lead the way in bringing the best AAA experiences to life in virtual reality and show the world this isn't some gimmick but the one of the best gaming innovations to exist!
