R.C. Pro-Am (NES game) : one of the first addictive racing games (for me)

One of the first racing games I ever played, R.C. Pro-Am featured a 3rd person camera that worked really well in a time when it seems all competitors were still aiming for 1st person.

This was also one of the first games that I can recall that involved a form of racing combat. . The combat wasn't terribly advanced and normally only involved a missile or two that could be fired to gain position. There were repercussions for overuse of the weaponry

There were a few obstacles that had to be avoided such as water puddles and oil slicks but for the most part what made this game so great wasn't the obstacles or the weapons but it was about the fact that the controls just worked. I mean it was a really tight game. Also, the fact that upgrades could be picked up while racing to improve performance was a nice touch.

You could choose from a few different cars and which one you chose really did make a difference in how the game played.

If someone were to try to make the argument that the success of this game might have paved the way for Mario Kart and others, I would agree with that.

Try to ignore the monotonous sound of the tires screeching, which is one of the only drawbacks of this game :) If you were fast of the tracks a good run would sound pretty much like tires screeching non-stop.

It doesn't look like much now but this is definitely one of the best games that existed on the NES, I would say it could be considered top 20. It certainly was for me

8 / 10

based on the time-period of course

When you said addictive, I had to scroll again to be sure i read right.

Lol i already imagined this soundtrack just the way it is.

For that time it totally passes as a 8. Nice review

excellent, can we play this game with two players. because the real fun comes in play with two player. i played this game but that version was second.

the original was only 1 player. I am quite certain they have changed that over time. This original game likely consumed as much memory as taking one, full-size picture on your phone does these days. haha

Ohhhhh.

I loved Rock `n roll racing but I am not sure if this was already snes.

Never played this one though and never heard of it.

Looks like micromachines got some inspiration out of that one

yeah, i was reading that MicroMachines was heavily influenced by this. I never played MM but i hear that it was great fun.

One of the most fun and frustrating multiplayer games I have played

well now i have to check it out!

Hello, my dear @gooddream, apparently video games have a kind of drug that makes them addictive hahaha. I've never been able to make a game like this and I'd like to do it someday. My admiration goes out to those who play and can spend long hours of fun in front of the screen, alone or accompanied. I imagine it's great to get into such an active story: defending a cause, saving someone and everything that goes with it; and in the racing game, the dangers, the obstacles. A lot of adrelina, right? I hope you continue to enjoy this kind of fun. You gave it a good score. A hug.

i don't know if playing video games should be admired. however, i do find it is a good way to kill some time. It's healthier than going to the bar! is what i like to say.

I think that's a very accurate answer, my dear.

I'm sold, I'm going to have to play this on my emulator.

"It doesn't look like much now"
Yes, that's funny. But for retro fans it's still great.

OH! I LOVE This Gameimages.png this!I Was Very Excited To See Your Post Great work ( awesome )

it is unfortunate to see that you post the same response to almost everything. :(

She seems to be half Hartley fishing for upvotes. I do greatly appreciate the upvotes you give me on comments and I'm sure others do to. But it's 10 to 20 cents It's not worth trying to hustle someone over.
