Resources fluctuate so quickly in Darkest Dungeon. One of the causes of this is as soon as you've managed to upgrade something, the seemingly ample gold reserves are consumed by more expensive upgrades.
Then, as soon as you've seen an enormous collection of heirlooms amass, the next upgrade to the Hamlet's buildings are incredibly expensive and prevent you from upgrading another part of the Hamlet.
In turn, the cycle continues and you're forever attempting to track down more and more loot. It grows rather tiresome, to some extent, but the combat and sense of chance is something that keeps me constantly coming back for more and more.
