I return to the docks again, to investigate the lead of the missing members of the community. Exploring the docks, I find some mean looking monsters made of liquid in the bay, among ruined boats. I fight them. At first, I am slightly intimidated by them as they're something new, that I haven't face before. It ends really well, but my priest man gets absolutely hammered.
As I explore the bay, at low tide, I find bits and pieces of a scepter, which probably has some sort of magical properties. After I am done killing the things and go back to up have a chat with one of the sailor-men, he tells me that there's someone at the Sanatorium that will buy. If only he knew that I had earlier slaughtered all the people that worked there.
The other person that I meet is down the jetty, in a bit of a pickle because he lost the treasure chest that his boss thinks is important. He doesn't yet realise that all goods are transient and will end up in my pockets by the time I am done with the world. I will prevail in finding this alleged box of treasure.
I set off in search of this treasure box, and I have very rapidly learned that I should speak to the NPCs who have names, and are white texts. The other guys are just filler NPCs, with nothing real to contribute. The great thing is that I pick up another quest, and Gherk will now be a builder, set to construct an inn out of the old lighthouse in the district, to fix up the social problem that sailors have - they can only get a room at the brothel when they're in town.
I have this same problem after fighting some initial creatures of shadowy darkness on the ground floor of the lighthouse.
I battle my way up the spiral like structure of the lighthouse, and meet a aptly named Banshee. Her name is Lilith, and she looks like a ghost. She proceeds to destroy my party, along with her minions. I hit the load button again, and rethink my strategy. This time, I'm going to unleash many more spells, and that army of creatures that I amassed previously. I do not know how powerful they will be, but they might work. I hope against hope, that they do, and ... they do!
Beyond this, I go, collect a paltry reward, and investigate some more things happening in the docks, including some blokes who are abusing the local courtesans. I kill them, and am promised a discount at the brothel should I wish to employ its services. Ironically, the head of the brothel is the shamed animancer that... I well, shamed previously, uncovering his work as a shitty animancer. Its funny. I don't employ him.
There is talk among the town that some people have gone missing, and part of this investigation starts within the docks. This leads me to one of the most memorable sidequests that I have experienced so far. Spoiler alert: all the missing people appear to be linked to an actress in the center of town, and for all accounts, she's absolutely stunning, gorgeous, and lovely. I mean, just read this description, its oozing with sophistication, and the writers got this sequence on point:
Not too long after this exchange, one of her associates suggests we meet back at her house, as he has something to tell me. I go there, and he tells me of a bizarre plot that Lumdala is running, and that there's some sort of dungeon theatre under her home. Intrigued, I listen to him, before killing him for knowing about this and not telling the authorities.
I explore the dungeon, and I am disappointed, based on the prior description that it isn't a sex dungeon - I had anticipated this is what an actress of her 'class' would do, instead, I find a magical scarf that chokes people, used as a prop - well, maybe it is a sex dungeon. I am confronted by Lumdala in her theater dungeon; and proceed to kill her, and a band of actors. I gain XP, and some more crappy armor to sell to the merchant for precious coin. This almost wraps up all the quests in the city, and It feels like I've spent a week running around, back and forth, being a hero. I've grown my coffers to over 48,000 coins, which should build my stronghold up nicely. In the next session, I hope to complete all that is required of me so I can tackle those rogue druids again. Maybe descend a bit further into dungeons below the stronghold.
