holoz0r's A-Z of Steam: Crimzon Clover WORLD IGNITION

I've no clue what the significance of the last two words being capitalised in this game's title means. It is a bullet hell shooter. There's some enemies that look like flowers, but most stuff is your typical fighters, tanks, and missiles that you need to dodge, destroy, or fall victim to, like all bullet hell games.

There's bombs, high scores, stars, and lots of visual effects going on all the time. There's the never-ending continue button, too, which would have cost quite a few quarters had you been playing a title like this as the arcade.

It has native x-input support, it detecting my XBOX controller and mapping the keys flawlessely. Controls are fluid, and easy, but visual acuity is your biggest enemy for games like this, with your eyes and senses only able to absorb so much sensory input before you fall into a blithering mess.

At the end of each stage, you're scored on your success (or failure) - and you can gain new lives as you progress through the various maps. There's no real story at all - no lore, and no explanation beyond the packaging that I didn't care to read. There's only so much that you can do or say about a bullet hell shooter, and to me, not much differentiates them beyond the pixel art, fluidity of controls, and the "skin" that they wear.

I think it would be a pretty good opportunity for one with a story line, and a plot between missions to actually excel.

This is a genre where I genuinely feel that if you have played one, you have played them all. There's nothing extraordinarily remarkable about this game, but it plays well. Conversely, there's probably plenty of free bullet hell shooters out there that play just as well.

I'm going to say that unless you have some sort of kindred connection with capital letters, arcade machines, and nostalgic, arguably obsolete genres of games, that you leave this one well alone.

Well, I have to say that if you are into bullet hell shooters, you'll have a great time with this one (I certainly did), because it is very well made, but if this genre is not your cup of tea, then rather not.

This game has some features that make it very accessible (for a bullet hell shooter), like infinite continues or it's visual clarity (even when the whole screen is full with bullets, you still know where to look at). But again: bullet hell shooters is a genre that you either love or completely ignore.
