How to fund your indie-game

I'm the proud creator of an indie game, already published on Steam and in the process of being ported to PlayStation and Xbox. The game is Solaria Moon and you can take a peek here http://store.steampowered.com/app/623930/Solaria_Moon/

()

I made the game as a hobby in my free time and It takes me around two years to be finished... two years and more than 14000$... yes... a bit expensive to be a hobby, isn't it? but wait, wait...

I spent 14000$ making the game yes, but in the process I've earned more than 20000$ simply by selling the asset I've created for the game in the Unity Asset Store. Does it sound interesting to you? Read below and see the pictures.

I'm not a 3D artist, in fact most of the money I've spent was buying 3D models to artist, so what do I sell in the asset store? small chunks of code!! Take a look at my Asste Store:

Most of my assets are scripting to manage sound effects, shaders and templates ready to be used by the customer. But having good assets to sell is not all you need to earn nice buckets every month, here are some advices that will help you to make money in the asset store:

  1. If you made something interesting for your game, for sure it will be also interesting for other games! Keep focused to sell anything you can
  2. Try to make your assets as generic as you can. This will made it more atractive to customers
  3. Don't make a big expensive asset! Instead, try to make several small cheap ones and sell them separately. You can always make bundles putting toghether related assets
  4. Exceptional customer care is a must. You need to realice you will never sell thousands of assets each mont... if you are lucky you will sell some dozens, so give a good customer care is essential. Help your customers to get your asset working
  5. Spent time making good manuals, good images and even video tutorials of your assets. I use Camtasia Studio but any video editor will help you create good creativities for you asset. The best selling assets are those who has best creativities and videos.

Do these advices works? well, take a look at the incomes chart for my assets... this figures are real and kept my game developement in the way.

Wow I just watched the trailer for your game it actually looks pretty cool. I have made little indie games in Unity before non published they sucked but I never thought you could make that much money from selling assets in the store I may look into that. Nice Post

In fact I made much more money from the Asset Store than selling the game in Steam...

Nice job on the game and good blog post, also! Do you any possibility on combining your two hobbies, blockchain and game development?
