Playing with Momentum

Another short post tonight, but we should be back to a more usual length starting tomorrow.

One of the things that I've noticed doesn't get used enough in D&D is the Inspiration mechanic, which boosts characters' actions when they do something that's considered important, cool, or in-character (usually at the expense of optimal solutions, though a particularly clever idea may also warrant the boost).

It's similar to things like Ego in Degenesis, which is a sort of floating pool of boosts that can be replenished slowly by comfortable living or quickly by Burn (a quasi-supernatural fungus byproduct) or doing things that are in line with the character's motivations.

In Hammercalled, the Adrenalin system isn't currently set up to do this, but I'm going to switch it over to more explicitly pin Adrenalin to doing cool stuff. The current refresh on rest system will be maintained (to help non-roleplayers), but the new system will give more of an opportunity to benefit from Adrenalin.

The thing I like about Inspiration vs many action dice mechanisms is that it encourages players to actually use it rather than just sit on their dice until "they really need it" that may never actually happen which is a main complaint regarding of action dice system.
