A game with only bosses, sounds good right? Or are there some disadvantages to this approach?
What is Furi about?
A mysterious man named 'the Voice' decides to free the main character in Furi. This protagonist is called the biggest part of the game 'The Stranger'. This liberation actually starts the first battle immediately. Here the control is explained and it is important to immediately put it into practice. After defeating this first enemy, enough others follow.
During the journey the background story of every opponent you encounter is told through long dialogues. The story is well thought out. A number of cliffhangers kept me busy, even after the game ended. Although the story does not seem very interesting at the beginning, I was included later in the game. The imaging of certain scenes certainly contributed to this. I can not tell too much about the end. The only tip I can give is; do not stop at the credits.
Very difficult bosses
Determining a difficulty level is possible, but the makers are very motivated to choose the normal 'Furi'. There is an easier 'Promenade', but as the word suggests, this is actually for the wimps. This is even more emphasized when choosing Promenade (do not be a wimp).
Going through the game in Furi I personally found it really difficult. While writing this review, I'm still not really sure if it comes through me or the control. Avoiding and parrying attacks was a major irritation for me. Getting these two maneuvers under control has taken a lot of time. In addition, every boss works differently, so remembering attacks and responding well again starts over and over again. The joy is great when defeating a boss, but I can imagine that not every gamer will appeal to this high level of difficulty. Promenade is then a better choice, since you get more lives here.
Now we know
Furi is put on the market as a hack and slash or shoot em up game. Although it is all about defeating bosses, I think this typing is a bit of a shortage of Furi's potential. The story is in fact well constructed and builds up nicely to an interesting highlight. It is only unfortunate that the dialogues go hand in hand with incredibly boring gameplay. In between the bosses The Stranger walks to the next opponent. The road that is traveled, however, is purely and solely designed to tell the story. Nothing happens and the controls are still very annoying. There is even an auto-walk function, which means that my argument is reinforced.
The controls also do not always work flawlessly during intense fights. Some bosses make use of many different attacks, so that a lot happens on the screen. This regularly ensures freezing of gameplay. Partly understandable for an indie game of 20 euros, but hopefully this can be improved through updates.
Conclusion
The Game Makers have set up a very good fighting game with this indie game. Furi is original in her concept by focusing solely on final boss fights. The diversity in these bosses is very good, every boss tells his or her own story. Unfortunately, this story is not beautifully presented. The supporting gameplay is incredibly boring and irritating.
Perhaps I am too enthusiastic about the story in Furi and the attention here is not at all. Nevertheless, I think Furi could have been even better with appropriate gameplay in the dialogues. I can not wish for anything for 20 euros.
Let me know how you experienced the game. I am very curious!

Honestly. I never understood games that are made to be difficult just for the sake of being difficult. Dark souls and it's ilk are difficult but that meshes well. With the world.
But here it seems to be a case where it's just difficult to make people frustrated pointlessly.
