You'll see nine out of ten times if a game is made by a big or a small developer. The big boys often bring graphically overwhelming titles on the market, while a small independent team must have the originality or use a particular twist on a particular genre. Still, there is an indie game on the market, which you can not immediately see by what team this is made. Mages of Mystralia is such a title.
Magicians of Mystralia
In Mages or Mystrailia you come to a world where a whack is made on wizards. Past events have triggered and imprisoned anyone who has magic powers as an evil person. Zia finds out that she also has magic powers and accidentally blows up her house. The girl turns her village out, but soon she gets someone who wants to help her get to grips with her. Only her learning process will be accelerated, because high level playing is a vicious game, which must fear everybody for his life.
The Legend of Zelda
It is clear where Borealys Games has gained inspiration from Mages of Mystralia. The game is a Zelda clone, which is not meant to be Breath of the Wild, in which you decide what you are doing and where you go. No, this game contains the old formula of the famous series, in which you get into a semi-open world and complete dungeons in a mandatory order. It also uses the same camera point as in A Link to the Past. That even Nintendo decided to leave behind the old Zelda concept and come up with some news, of course, it does not mean that Mages or Mystralia is immediately doomed to fail. That's definitely not the game, because everything has been worked out very well.
This begins with the overall presentation. This is an indie game, but you do not actually see anything. The game uses a cartoon-like style and looks very well looked after. Everything is also well animated and that makes the game a very nice whole. Also the use of classical musical instruments to guide the game is a very good choice. The only thing that makes the game seem to be a game with a small budget is that no voice actors have been used. Everything is told to you by means of written text. That's not bad at all, because it fits well with the chosen formula. Old Zelda games did not have this either.
Extensive basic package
Link always used his sword to defeat his enemies, but Zia does that in a completely different way. She uses adultery. The sorcerer has four basic talks in total. This way she can shield a shield to protect her, she has control over fire and ice and has a melee attack. That is not very much, but for all they can be enhanced or expanded. Here the game uses a fairly unique system. During your adventure, you will find different items that you can bind to your sayings, so that they change.
For example, you can add an explosion to your spell or the ability to fire heat-seeking projectiles. There are many other possibilities you will find during your adventure and you can combine them again. This allows you, together with the previous example, to fire heat-seeking projectiles that explode at impact or cause an explosion that may occur in heat-seeking projectiles. Due to the many extra possibilities you will find during your adventure, there are really dozens of combinations possible and the exposing of this is very fat. There will also be other elements for further variation in the long run.
Puzzling
Of course, not only do you fire spells on your enemies, but you also have to solve various puzzles in the different dungeons you will visit. Mages of Mystralia is doing good business here too. It all starts pretty simple, but the further you get, the more you will have to use your gray mass. Some puzzles are really cleverly assembled, which sometimes seems impossible to solve, but the solution is ultimately very simple. There are also hidden rooms in which you have to solve a puzzle on some kind of board game, and this is also a great fit. Borealys Games really deserves a lot of fun.
And again
Unfortunately, fighting is less well painted. During your adventure, there is not too much difference in enemies, so it will be a bit monotonous in the long run. That's basically true to the formula that has been used, but sometimes it's a bit repetitive. The final bosses are different, but only another problem will arise. These are nice, but they are very easy to beat. It does not matter how far you are in the adventure, you will have little trouble defeating the various big monsters with your first attempt. That's a pity, because the puzzles are getting more and more difficult as you move on.
Back and forth
Another drawback is backtracking. Of this kind of games you can expect to have to walk back and forth repeatedly between certain places or villages. Regularly do you need something or do you have to do something that happens to happen in a very different village. Now you have the ability to teleport from one location to another, but only in certain places. These places are quite scarce, so sometimes it's faster as you walk to the particular place you need to be. And that's going to be a bit bored at one point. It's a pity that there are no more points to teleport.
The price is right
As you have been able to read, Mages or Mystaria generally takes a very good deal. If you only follow the story, you lost about 8 to 10 hours. However, there are still several secrets to be found and you want to play the game at 100 percent, so you can add it around 4 to 5 hours. And how much money is the game offered? No 18 euros yet. For what the game offers, it would have been easier to measure and you would not hear anyone complaining. So you definitely get value for money.
Conclusion
Mages of Mystralia is not very original, but it's just a good game. The familiar formula is very well worked out and the use of spells and the ability to customize them all the way you want will make for a very nice combination. The various puzzles in the game are also very well worked out and become more difficult as you move on to the adventure. It is true that fighting sometimes becomes somewhat monotonous and that final bosses are too easy to beat. Backtracking will also be annoying in the long run. Nevertheless, you can enjoy the game very well and the most beautiful thing is still the price. The game does not cost 18 euros and if you see what you get for it, it's really a bargain.
