Awesomenauts has been a game that since I got it has become my favorite MOBA. It used to be quite popular, then they added a leveling system which nerfed one of my favorite characters and sucked some of the life out of it. Now to try to bring some life back to the Awesomenauts community, it is going free to play May 24th!
Awesomenauts is a 2D platformer MOBA. It's easy to learn and fun to play, but also has complex depth for richer play styles. With only 2 special abilities you won't be fumbling around on your keyboard for them. If you play keyboard and mouse, the mouse buttons can launch all abilities. There is also a controller option but I find it clunky, especially when using a character that needs precise attack (most of them), however; I'm not much of a console gamer.
Going free to play will allow the community to grow, as people playing casually will now not have a reason to at least try it once. The whole game has been revamped, and the unlock system put on a per character basis. The characters that are available for free (5 of them) are on a weekly rotation, much like League of Legends, which allows new and existing players to play them. Anyone who already owned the game will automatically have everything unlocked that they originally had. New players will have to purchase characters if they want to be able to always play them. If you bought both expansions you will get the pack that unlocks all characters for all time, however if you only have one expansion it will only give you the characters from that expansion.
I'm really excited to see what might happen, and if you have some time try the game out, it is really, really fun. So mark it down March 24th.

The fact that it's 2D actually makes me think that this could be the first MOBA I actually enjoy?
Could you tell me a bit about the control scheme?

Left click is your basic attack, right click uses your first special ability and middle mouse button uses your second special ability. You attack in the direction of your cursor, and you run the way you press WASD. W is jump/move up, A/D move left/right, S drops through platforms or move down. I would say as far as feel, it plays like a 2D platform shooter.
I think they are rebind-able. For controller you attack in the direction you are moving(based on stick position) most of the time, it's just generally harder to aim, hence why I like it less. Also you have to press down and A to drop through platforms. But the way you use these controls varies based on the character and some work out alright with controller.

So movent is done through the keyboard and not by the mouse :)
