Has your life ever changed and you can trace it back to a single moment?

Thats the feeling that comes back to me when I think of Tony Hawk Pro Skater

I remember the time my friend Pancho called me and said hey come over

I just got a playstation and Tony Hawk Pro Skater

The moment I heard punk rock and ska

my life was never the same

From that moment on my life was consumed by the skateboarding and punk rock

But lets talk about the game

Back when Activision wasn’t trying to ruin gaming

They asked the now defunct Neversoft Studios to make a game based on the bird man him self

Now I will be playing the dreamcast version for this review

When I was a kid i owned the N64 version and as much as I love nintendo this was the inferior port. So dreamcast it is

not only is this game considered legendary

the music is where this game remains immortal but ill come back to that

This game has no story

No Arc

No romance

just tricks! Crazy skating levels and missions that don’t make sense

but thats why this game thrives! It stays fun!

In a 9 stop skating tour that takes place all over the US and ends in a top secret Roswell base/ skatepark you get to pick between 10 pro skaters and 2 hidden characters to wreck some havoc in career mode.

Each stage has 5 tapes that must collected by completing goals and beating highs scores and some competitions are thrown along the way. Completing the carrier will unlock cool skating videos that will remind you of cool rewards games had before the internet.  See in 99 we didn’t have youtube. Our home was not going to be getting internet for another month!

The music in this game is fantastic it kicks off the tradition of a powerful and fitting soundtrack with each release.

with a soundtrack that includes Suicidial tendencies, Goldfinger, The vandals and my favorite The Suicide Machines! Trust me this soundtrack will grow hair on your chest. I swear I’m listening to the soundtrack as i write this review and I get so pumped!

Even after all these years Tony Hawk Pro Skater remains a lot of fun to play. But it has aged by today standards. Newer releases have much more polished controls but the core of what makes this game so much fun remains there.

Think of this game like SMB1. The games that came later will always be much superior in many aspects. The magic of this game hangs on to its simple mechanic and challenging yet insane gameplay.

After removing my nostalgic glasses

I decided to give this game a solid 3.5 out of 5 only because I know what the future installments in the Tony Hawk franchise have in store store and how everything would be improved in ways beyond my young imagination.

Tony Hawk 2 ruled my Dreamcast and 3 dominated my Gamecube as the first games I really poured myself into on those consoles when I first picked them up.

Me and my roommate had a lot of fun making our own skateparks, giving jumps, rails, etc. absurd names and watching each other play through our demented creations.

Absolutely! We play this game at the office all the time! I can't even think about how many hours i lost recreating levels in THPS2
