I would first try to do a backup and do a clean install of Windows and perform all the updates with the latest drivers. If that doesn't work, it may be a hardware issue. The X58 is pretty ancient so it may be time to start fresh with a new build. But keep the 980 though, that card is still good unless that is failing as well.
