A selection of games I've played again, and some thoughts on them

in gaming •  6 years ago

This isn't going to be my normal style of gaming post, but will have a few link backs to past posts for the games I've played again and some further thoughts on them since my past post. There are many fine games out there, and I love playing new games, both since release and just new to me, I do like to replay games if they are good, or if others really like them. A result of that last part is how I've played 7 wonders more than a dozen times despite not really caring for it.

First up we have 2 games which I actually wrote about in the one post back when I did that regularly.Tokaido and Sagrada, which I can't believe was over a year ago. Then in a more recent replay, I got to play Century: Spice Road again.

Tokaido

I was able to play a few games of this in the last year, including a game with a special version of it. While many games with special components are improvements, and the minitures for each of the characters look very nice, and I'm sure being painted would be even more pretty, they weren't designed well as their bases don't fit on the player spaces on the board. This minor design oversight of the pieces meant that it was easier to play with the standard player pieces. The game remains very pretty and a fun experience every time I've played it.

I've also played many games of this on the app, which is an excellent implementation of the game, and at the excellent price of $2.99 it's hard to go past if you enjoy board games on your iOS device. I have noticed that the achievements don't seem to work, but they're hardly an issue with the actual gameplay.

Sagrada

The other pretty game from that post was just as much fun the second time around, and I thoroughly enjoyed teaching more people the game. It's a dice game with a difference and a bunch of variation from the cards that could be in the game. I'm always up for another game of this one.

Century: Spice Road

I enjoyed this one in a couple of back to back games with a group as part of a longer day gaming session, and it's still good, but once someone has their engine working it can be difficult to do anything about it. I think it's useful to recognise what other players are working towards and decide early if you're going to compete with them or go for something else that might be just as good for you. The downside is that it's important to get the bonus coins, as there really isn't a way to buy enough cheaper cards to end the game with more points than someone that's bought a few better cards with coin bonuses. If others are ignoring the coins though, you might be ok but that never happened in our games.

I've been looking for some people into board games here for a while but I never ran into anyone until now, definitely following. I've been dying to try to play a game on a podcast I produce even if it is over Steam or another dlc site. Any thoughts?

There are a few of us around, though I don't know if any of the others are using the #boardgames tag or if they're just sticking to #gaming.

I'm sure that some games would work well for a podcast, specifically the more vocal social deduction games where you don't need to be able to see the board. If you're thinking streaming though, there are quite a few youtubers that do that, and you can get hints on style and content from them. Most games can work for video style recordings, depending on the amount of editing you want to do and how long you want the vid to be.

Let me know if there is group that is interesting, I can produce the podcast and make it available for everyone to post. Could be really fun 100%
