Do Frame Rates Matter!? - Rerez Talks

in gaming •  7 years ago

The amount of frames per second a game can produce seems to be a controversial subject lately. A lot of people seem to not understand what it means to have a high frame rate or a low frame rate in a certain game.

There's a lot of gamers out there who mistakenly believe that high frame rates don't matter in the video games that they play. But there are at least a couple of games out there where you have a distinct advantage if your frame rates are a lot higher. For instance, first-person shooters benefit greatly from having more frames while you're playing because the faster the game is running, the faster you see images, the faster you can respond to them. They're not alone either, fighting games, shoot 'em ups, a lot of arcade style games, really anything that requires that twitchy, fast response benefits from a higher frame rate.

It's definitely much easier for PC gamers to reach the coveted 60 FPS over their console counterparts simply because of the capability of the hardware. Even with the more powerful PS4 and upcoming Xbox One X we're still seeing console games capped at 30 FPS. Why is that? What does all this mean for games like Doom on Nintendo Switch? Let's get into it.

In some games like Overwatch FPS correlates with input lag. That means the higher the FPS the smoother the controls not just the pictures.

In my opinion playing on 30 fps doesn't matter until you have experienced he 60 fps life style for example I used to have a potato laptop. And over watch would usually run below 35 but after switching to 60 I can never go back. The difference feels insane

i feel like playing game right now as reading your post

Best game

Nice game

Frame rates definitely matter. So does your refresh rate.

Thanks! Well explained @rerez and nice video too 👍

Frame rater obviously matter, but 30FPS or slightly lower is ok for non-action/non-competitive games.
Also, i think people who think frame rate isn't important never see difference between 30FPS and 60FPS at same time.

yeah... I'm one of them. my eyes can't see the difference so it doesn't matter as much for me...

You can check this website (http://www.testufo.com/) and maybe you will see the difference.

My eyes don't notice the difference between 30 and 60 (unless maybe if I concentrated with all my might), so I don't know... but yeah.. the more the better for the fast paced games

really? Even getting 115 fps on pubg instead of 144 fps annoys me

60 fps? I can't even play at that anymore I need 144 hz or its painful

I bought the ps4 pro, all white, destiny 2 edition. I was really hoping it would crank out 60fps at 1080p considering the fact it can handle 4k content.

at 4k there is intense screen tearing and 1080p isnt 60frames. I feel robbed, but, I kind of knew what I was getting myself into when purchasing a ps4 for the exclusives.

I can't wait for the console industry to actually stop holding back the whole gaming community.
