Prior to 2016 there was just a few Battle Royale or last man standing games. They weren't even full stand alone games, they were mods of a game. In 2016 we got a taste of our 1st real stand alone in "The Culling". People jumped on the game in droves, and went crazy over the feeling you get trying to be the last one alive in a match with 15 opponents. The racing heart, sweaty hands, the shaking of excitement were all something new for a game to deliver. The rush was a play, die, start a new match and those feelings start right back over. Then H1Z1 added a game mode that was last man standing that later broke in to its own stand alone game called King of the Kill. With this game we got a huge map and now more than 100 opponents. We also got weapons more familiar to us and the random loot spawns added to the challenge. The most recent game that has taken the gaming world by storm is Playerunknown's Battlegrounds by Bluehole. The man called Playerunknown is said to be the Father of the last man standing genre with the mod that he created for Arma called Battle Royale was brought on by Bluehole to oversee the project. Battlegrounds has become the most popular game on the gaming platform Steam with the average concurrent players of 1,436,158 worldwide and at peak concurrent players 3,138,533 more than tripling the #2 game Dota 2. Bluehole is on a mission to make Battlegrounds the first game of it's kind to be accepted in the eSports lineup with teams already being cultivated by most of eSports biggest teams. So the question is, can a Battle Royale style game climb to the height of eSports?
