Quick NES Review: Alien SyndromesteemCreated with Sketch.

So last night I finally got the chance to play the retro NES game Alien Syndrome since it was a relatively eerie night and I had some free time I thought this would of been a great opportunity to give it a try.

While this should of been played closer to Halloween November however seems to offer more days that suit the mood.
From looking at it now you might not think it's a scary game but back in the day this was a attempt at the horror genre which I believe the NES as a severe lack of because of hardware capabilities at the time. Plus Nintendo perhaps didn't want to scare their customers away with such games nor was it probably that popular.

I will probably re-write this in future as I didn't get too far into the game on my first try but will give it my thoughts from what I have seen so far.
So Alien Syndrome is a shooter but due to the NES capabilities it's a top down shooter like many other shooters were back in the day.

In the game you start by picking a hero you have a male and female character that you can pick from and I don't believe there are any difference between their abilities.
Once you pick a hero you are tasked with saving your comrades from a attacking alien invasion.
In the first level and I believe for the rest of the game your in a maze like area were you must find 12 of your comrades.
I'm not sure if it's 12 but what I will say was that I found this right off the bat a bit daunting as in most games you don't need to save such a high number of people.

But there is no time to think, aliens start attacking you so you must run away or shoot them.
You are also on a timer to find all your comrades and with so many of them to find you must act quickly.
As you explore these maze levels full of aliens you can pick up different weapon's to help you along the way but once you pick one up you can't switch to another until you find it again.
This brings another element of strategy because once you get all your comrades you must find the exist safely and once you reach the exist the stress doesn't end there you must now fight a boss.

Now with these bosses I find that if you don't have the right weapon to deal with it your probably not going to make it because your also on a timer when it comes to defeating the bosses.

I find the bosses are probably the best part of the game so far the only trouble is having the right weapon to deal with it, but if you got the right stuff so far it's made these fights interesting and intense.

The game to no surprise since being a NES title is hard "one hit" and your gone, which is only frustrating because after 3 continues your back at the title screen.
Which means it's going to take a bit of practise to beat this one, perhaps once each map layout is figured out it will make the game easier which is why I might draw a simple map and then ask a friend to tell me which way I should go to rescue all comrades, if this can be done I feel like it's a awesome way to play and do something together with friends.

There is a two player option which I have not delved into just yet but the option is indeed there.
While I have not played the game all the way through yet so far I would say Alien Syndrome will probably be another game I will keep in my collection.
