Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde is a game from the small collection of Halloween/ horror type of games featured on the NES.
Due to the nature of the company persisting with mostly a family friendly type of game collection there are not many games in this category however Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde doesn't exactly break the rules that makes it surprising to have made it on to the system. But some would argue more on it's quality control rather than it's actual horror elements haha.

The game is based loosely on the "strange case" series and speaking of strange cases I know your probably thinking it's rather strange reviewing supposedly a horror game so close to Christmas? Well at least at the time of writing this review it was close to Christmas but believe me there has still been some good quality spooky type nights here to put you in the mood to play such games.
Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde is no surprise a 2D game where you make your way to the right side of the screen, but here is where I like to throw this in..(Walking Simulator) Yes I know it sounds crazy and especially boring for a game put honestly that's what Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde feels like a (Walking Simulator) and if your wondering... yes it is boring sometimes! I can honestly say it's one of the very few walking simulator type games out there but still in true NES form very difficult to play.

In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde you start by seeing our good doctor, Jekyll working in he's lab, yes even on his very own wedding day! That's right in the game Dr Jekyll is moments away from getting married to Miss Millicent! While some will say the opening screen of the game means that he just can't pull away from his work I actually think he is busy scrambling looking for a cure before the wedding begins. For those who don't know he is looking for a cure to stop himself turning into the Mr Hyde beast.

But without any luck in finding a cure Dr Jekyll must present himself at the wedding as of course himself, no woman is going to marry a beast, right? And so in order for Dr Jekyll to turn up at the wedding as a normal human being he must keep himself under control, "calmly" walking to the church to marry. If Dr Jekyll gets too stressed he will turn into Mr Hyde likely to cause chaos to all those around him.

And so this is the premise of the game, yes you are simply going to casually walk all the way to your own wedding, I promise you it's the entire game. And while that sounds simple and boring it's definitely not simple at all as Dr Jekyll will have a very difficult time keeping cool walking in England somewhere in the Victorian 1800s. And believe me it will also be a test to the player, but funnily this is what much of what the game is about, keeping your cool as Dr Jekyll and as the player. Think I might be right in saying most people who played this game likely saw their own Mr Hyde come out of hiding haha. And so it gives you something to think about on what this game is really all about eh.

So why is walking such a challenge you ask? Well I will try and finish the review in part 2 next time.
