Why the switch matters?

Before we begin, I will admit to being a Nintendo fan ( I also enjoy Playstation, X-Box, and PC.) I have every generation and I shamelessly buy any new hardware they put out. All that aside I am also fulling willing to admit that my Nintendo consoles have been my secondary systems since the Wii on.

Nintendo innovates, Sony and X-Box follow market trends.

Nintendo has always tried to change the way we play games

NES changed the controller layout with the D-pad,

SNES improved the design with shoulder buttons,

Nintendo had a hand in developing discs, N64 brought back analog sticks

(remember Playstation added this later,)

Gamecube changed the disc media itself,

Wii motion controls,

WII U integrated a tablet and Switch combines the best of both worlds.

My point here is that a world without Nintendo is a world where nothing else but graphics matter and quite frankly after a certain point if i wanted realism i would walk out my door. You may not like some of their innovations (motion controls,) but may of them changed gaming forever. The Switch is again sparking another innovation or rather rebirth in terms of physical media for home consoles, discs have reached their full potential. You may think physical media is dead but as games get larger it might make sense for systems to pack in less storage so they can keep the price point down. To close, Nintendo might not have established a gaming culture but they certainly made it more visible. The switch is another evolution in these terms, we bring home consoles outside and become ambassadors not only to Nintendo but to gamin itself. Ask 10 people who Mario is and then who Kratos is. Nintendo produces games that everyone can play, not all games need adult content. We need Nintendo to continue innovating and to keep changing the public perception of what it means to be a game. ( I understand Nintendo didn't invent motion controls but they made them easy enough for Grandma to use.)
