Monopoly - The gameplay

Good day steemians, today I will be telling us about the game monopoly and how to play it.

Monopoly

Introduction

The game monopolyis know for it's popularity amongst the high calibre population, it is a game that involves throwing a dice, buying property lots, developing lots, paying rent for entering developed or undeveloped lots...
The objective of the monopoly game is to become the wealthiest player on the board through buying, renting and selling property.

Playing Monopoly

There are five stages to playing the game monopoly, these include;

1. Preparation
2. The Play
3. Buying
4. Paying rent
5. Morgaging
6. Bankruptcy

Stage 1 - Preparation

Before playing any game, it has to be set up, this is usually easy in most games like draft and cards surprisingly setting up my monopoly game was also easy except tearing it out of the bag used to wrap it though.

Here's how to set up.

1. Place the board on a table.
2. Put the community chest card and chance card on the spaces allowed them on the board.
3. Each player chooses a token to represent him/her.
   The monopoly game takes a minimum of two players and maximum of 8 Players, using objects for reference. These objects include; a horse, car, ship and others.
4. 15000 game cash is distributed to all players and the rest stashed in the bank with property deeds.

Stage 2 - The Play

After the game is set, each player picks up the dice and throws on the board. The player with the highest throw starts that game.

Place your token on the corner of the board tagged "Go", then throw the dice to move your token in the direction of the arrow the number of times indicated by the dice.

More than one token can rest on the same spot depending on the dice. Each player takes turns in throwing and moving according to dice limit. Once a player goes round the board completely, a dividend or salary of 2000 game money is paid to him/her. As long as the players keep passing go, they keep getting the salary.

Stage 3 - Buying Property

Whenever a player gets to land in an unowned property, they may buy it from the bank at its printed price, and recieve a title deed representing ownership of the property, any player or the player that refuses to buy the property may bid for it, bidding may start at any price.

Stage 4 - Paying Rent

If at any point in the game, you land on a property owned by another player, the owner received the rent from you, if the property is not morgaged. It is also an advantage to own all the properties in a color group as the rent is doubled for that group. The owner of the property may not collect the rent if he/she doesn't ask for it before the next player throws the dice.

Stage 5 - Mortgaging

Lots that have not been improved by the owners can be mortgaged through the bank at any point in the game but if improved, all the buildings on that property would be sold back to the bank at half the price, no rent can be collected on mortgaged property.
In order to lift a property from mortgage, the player must pay a 10% Interest to the bank before property can be lifted.

Stage 6 - Bankruptcy

Once you owe more than what you can pay to the bank or another player, you are declared bankrupt. If the debt is to another player, you must give all you have in the game To that player. In making this settlement, all houses or hotel owned must be given to the bank in exchange for the money

Others

Chance and Community Chest

When a player lands on either of these spaces, he/she must take from the top is the stack of the indicated card and follow the instruction on the card and return below the stack.

Income Tax

This is a section on the board that requires any player who lands on it to pay 2000 game cash to the bank or 10% of the players total worth which includes cash at hand, mortgage value of property deeds which is printed behind the cards, and the price of all houses and hotels owned by the player.

Jail

There are two ways to land in jail either by community chest or chance cards or when your token lands on the space marked go to jail, you don't get to collect 2000 game cash.

How to get out of jail

There are just four ways to get out of jail these include:

1. Throwing doubles thrice consecutively.
2. Using a get out of jail free card.
3. Buying a get out of jail free card from another player in the game.
4. Paying a bail fee of 500 game cash.

Houses and Hotels

Once a player owns all the properties in a color group, he or she is now allowed to buy properties from the bank and build on the slots bought.

Once a house is bought, the next house to be bought must be placed on another slot in the group that is not improved this makes development of properties sequential.
Following this rule, you may buy as much as you will as long as your financial ability can carry.

Once a player has bought four houses on his or her property slot, the player is now qualified to buy a hotel from the bank. Once the hotel is bought, the player must return the four houses on that property slot to the bank.
