Online Multiplayer games have been around for a short while now. Some are straight, point and shoot while others remain a mystery.

Most games developed today come with a solo campaign as an add on, unlike the older games where the multiplayer was an add on in the past, yet despite this, there are still a few multiplayer games out there that will struggle to bring in new players because the game is overly complicated and the majority of players give in soon after.

Here are 5 of the Hardest Multiplayer games to learn how to play.

5 – World of Warships.

Even though this is a popular title to play, you have to be very dedicated to the game in order to succeed.
Just like its sister game, World of Tanks, you have to climb up through the ship tiers to get bigger, better and faster ships to help you on your journey to win every match. Even though the controls are not overly complicated, you have to choose your ships wisely as you need to know what there strengths and weaknesses are. You could end up with a destroyer that has massive fire power but susceptible to torpedoes thanks to the weak hull, or vice versa. To complicate things further, you will also need to change your gaming style with each ship so you can use those strengths to your advantage.

4 – StarCraft II.

StarCraft is the poster child game for the modern eSports events that happen all over the world, but not as big as it is in south Korea where this game and eSports exploded into what we see today.
StarCraft is a Real Time Strategy where you have to build up your base, skill, weapons and more to the point you can go in and take out your enemies.
The game and its expansions improved over the original 1998 game massively, but it also made the game more difficult. It is one of the most popular eSports titles ever as it can take years to learn how to control and learn how to take advantage of strengths and weakness for each race. This is the reason why there are regular competitions where the prize money can reach half a million in winning and much more in sponsorship deals.

3 - League of Legends.

This game is even more difficult to learn as it takes all the things that make StarCraft great and times it all by a thousand.
Another RTS game but is on a whole other level of complicatedness. Added into the mix are your team members instead of going it alone as so many other RTS games. You have to learn how to control the game and learn every single map so you never loose when opponents take advantage of avenues left wide open. The team system is also another learning curve, if you enter a random match and get teamed up with random players, you never know what the outcome will be. The best strategy is find team mates that you can communicate with and will take every match seriously like you. Working with team mates and how they fight can take months to learn and this is why the game is one of the most popular eSports titles in the world today as it takes a lot of dedication to become the best.

2 – Eve Online.

Space exploration, resource mining, dog fights, wars, currency, market, ships... these are all the things you have to learn before you actually start playing the game.
Eve is phenomenally large and it is constantly expanding. Apart from all the things about the game you have to learn the controls are simple by comparison. The game even comes equipped with a full guide to help you when you start playing the game. How to fly your ship, how to fight and select weapons, how to scan, but once you get into the economics of the game, it changes entirely. Although the game is visually stunning, most players who join are put off because they are over whelmed with the amount of stuff you need to know, with only 1 in 5 people who start playing the game, sticking it out. And when you do, you are reworded with the brilliance of this masterpiece. It is a game you need to learn constantly as new content is created in this ever evolving space opera RTS.

1 – Arma 3.

So far the games in this list have been tame when compared to this title. There is no guide to help you and the controls are more than complicated, yet for those that stick it out have an awesome time playing this open world survival game.
The keyboard and mouse scheme is extremely complicated for this military combat game, with almost every button having its own use and button combinations on top to add to your already confused brain.
There is no one dedicated server to choose from either unlike most other online games. Instead it is the players who have setup there own servers, each with its own unique style and mods. So regardless of which server you choose, you will almost certainly have to adapt your fighting style to that particular server, because if you switch, there may be different weapons, vehicles and building materials, each having different damage values and cost.
With such a huge map and various zones, getting the ''high ground' over your enemies is key, you will have to learn every nook and cranny in order to win. This will also go a long way in helping you pick a good defensive location for your base.
There is no one solid source online that can give you a guide on how to play the game, yet despite the complications, this is still a very popular title to play and is really only for players that can easily adapt to changes when changing maps or servers.

The only benefit I can really see with a hard to learn game is that only dedicated players tend to play them and trolls are very far and few between, but there is also the satisfaction you would get from conquering the game after you thought it was impossible to play.

Thanks for reading.

great list and great article subject! Keep up the good work!

With my new computer build, I will actually be able to join serious games without my hardware making it impossible!

Superb round up, I can't say I have played any of these - certainly look like some good ones but I think for me the amount of time required to learn the game is just impossible.
