Super Meat Boy Forever Brings Major Changes to Fan Favorite

This is a conundrum that many developers face. They have a break out hit and then they ride that wave for a while. Porting that successful game to many platforms and enjoying the fanfare for each version or little update that is made along the way. Then it comes time to release another game in that successful series. Keep this in mind as you read about Super Meat Boy Forever, coming to many platforms from the get go.

First, Team Meat are making Super Meat Boy Forever an endless runner. Much like the countless games on mobile platforms in this genre already, fans of the blob of meat will be joining those ranks in 2018. For some, this is no big deal and they will be there from day one. Those fans are the “die-hard” fans. They are the ones that take the financial bullet for the rest of us on day one. Those fans are already looking at the bottom of this article searching for the “pre-register” link (hint, there isn’t one, just a site link to get basic information on the game).

The rest of us, the ones that are tired of endless runners, probably should read this quote from the developers;
“To describe Super Meat Boy Forever as an auto-runner would be a disservice. It’s like saying that Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a game about a swordsman. Meat Boy / Bandage Girl do always run, but there is so much more to the game than running. They can attack enemies, they can dash through the air, there are tons of levels, there are bosses, there are secrets, and there is a surprising amount of difficulty that doesn’t feel unfair. It’s everything you would expect a Super Meat Boy sequel to be. Super Meat Boy Forever is a Super Meat Boy game that you can play anywhere on pretty much any device that’s powerful enough to run it!”

There is hope though. Considering there will be offensive moves such as kicking, punching, and sliding to attack enemies means there is a little bit more interaction in Super Meat Boy Forever. This could be a nice addition to the genre where simply avoiding obstacles is your only offense in many entries (Super Mario Run being one of the “leading” examples of endless runners done right).

Okay, if you are still reading this, prepare to get excited for Super Meat Boy Forever (just hold back a bit as it isn’t coming out till next year). If you own one of the below listed platforms and want to play this game, then you will be in luck (next year):
Apple iPhone
Google Play
Nintendo Switch
Sony Playstation (4 I presume, considering it is only coming to Xbox One)
Steam
Xbox One

I never finished but enjoyed the first game! Its hard as shit! Looking forward to this sequel and trust the developer to deliver on a good game. His track record is good in my book!

Your sentiment is one that I hear repeatedly when referring to this developer. That is why I don't mind, while not having played his game yet, covering his new projects whenever possible. I like to support those that are quality people through and through.

Personally I have not finished the first episode (PC) XD

I still haven't played the original Super Meat Boy, but I've wanted to since seeing the 2 Indie Game movies. They never ported it for PS3 (PS4 they did). Then I got into retro gaming and never got a PS4. I just bought a Wii U (which I think has it), but I know I'm already getting a Switch soon as it's available in Bloomington, IL, so I'll prob wait to play it on that.

I'm not a fan of playing runners but I am a fan of watching other people play runners .

I play endless runners more to review them than to enjoy them. lol I have only played some of the indie homebrew versions of Super Meat Boy so I cannot really comment on the quality of the original.

Speaking of retro consoles and such, this port of Super Meat Boy may interest you:

It is a fan port of Super Meat Boy to the Game Boy Advance. It is free and so are emulators to play it such as Visual Boy Advance.

Thanks, ill check that out.
