Zelda Clone Being Worked on for Pico-8 Hand Held

Zelda fans, get ready, as there is a clone being worked on for the Pico-8. You can play it right now though, no hardware required as it is playable in your browser.

The Story of Zeldo 1.0 is just that, a clone of The Legend of Zelda from the Nintendo Entertainment System days. Developer Alanxoc3 states, “Originally, The Story of Zeldo was going to be a small project that would only take a few hours/days. Though I wasn't going to put much time into it, I couldn't stop working on it and ended up spending a couple weeks on it.” A labor of love that just kept giving.

Interestingly, The Story of Zeldo is possible because it takes up nearly all of the available resources the Pico-8 offers.
The game play of The Story of Zeldo is pretty slick. You move with your arrow keys, interact with the Z key and use your weapon with the X key. Traverse the world and save Princess Zeldo.

As you play The Story of Zeldo you will come across some witty comments, signs, etc. That is pretty cool as the developer has some fun with it. Such as our urge to loot before reading nearby signs. Right off the bat, you see a chest in an abandoned cave. You open it and then read the sign right next to it. Apparently, this item was the last possession of someone and they left a note ask you to not take it. Great. Now I feel bad. You meet the main boss early on in Zeldo and he even has some quips to throw your way when you avoid him and open the nearby chest hoping for food, a weapon or something else.

The Story of Zeldo is available for free on the Lexaloffle website.

Really neat, never heard of this Pico-8 yet, any games you'd recommend for that "console" that show of it's power?

I need to make a new article with more recent games but here are six great ones to try out.

And then there is Alone in the Dark:

3D Zaxxon:

There are more, I just have to sift through and find the diamonds in the rough so to speak. The store has a similar problem that iTunes and Google Play have - no real curators available.

zeldo... oh boy. How about Zelduh, or Zelderp~? haha
