The New World Of Video Game Popularity - Streaming

in gaming •  7 years ago

I wrote an article about Fortnite the other day that talked about the reasons Fortnite is really popular. One of the reasons I stated is that it is a great game to watch. It is a contained experience, a set amount of time and gets more and more intense as the player(s) get closer to that number one spot. And it is not Fortnite but other games that have capitalized on streaming to become popular and even some from youtube videos like survival horror games. Is this the new way we judge the popularity of a game?

For one thing this is a string of free advertising games didn't have before. Popular players pick up your game and streaming it to their viewers, some, in turn, buy the game. And the games that are really popular become viral sensations themselves. There are games I waned to play that I would never have heard of if not for a stream of a youtube video. The only downside is when a game is a heavy story based game. If you watch someone play it from start to finish it might no longer be a game you want to buy.

But games that are esports friendly or online experiences that can't really be spoiled can really get pushed from an online stream. These are streams that help players get better themselves and create a cycle that fuels the community of a game. With that in mind do you think a lot of game companies are keeping streaming in mind when they make games? It definitely helps with sales.

It is a new world of gaming.

Absolutely, how often do you see a single player game do well these days? They rarely do.

The last single player game that I got really engrossed in was Last of Us. That game was freaking amazing. Would we see a game like that do really well again? Probably not. The streaming and online multiplayer side of things is just too easy to market and do really well from.

Games every day really evolve a new world
And too large to be tested with certainty
You are really very special

I think developers these days definitely keep streaming in the forefront of their mind when developing online games. Even some story games, like Farcry 5 probably had some influence from the streaming market. That's what it is, a streaming friendly market.

To be honest, I don't really see a downside. Creating a game that is as fun to watch as play offers a lot of potential for the creator to make money, and for the community to make money. The one concern I have is that publishers could get greedy and begin to want to take royalties from those who choose to stream that publishers games. Think Nintendo. As long as that doesn't become mainstream, I could see streaming being very beneficial for video game marketing in the future. Everyone can stand to gain.

I agree, I always wondered how some companies felt with their games being played online for everyone to see but it is great advertising.

games release stress and gaming is like an addiction for gamers

now a days video game is a fentastic content.
its becoming increase popularity to the new world.
for streaming multiplayer based game is so mervelous and greatfull..
thanks for game through streaming update,

Definitely multiplayer games benefit from streaming.
I've watched a few streams on dlive as well. They're quite fun

I definitely watch a lot of streams of games but there is a problem of storage mostly in the new games. We don't have the capacity to play big games which are closer to reality.

I have watched a lot of Dlive streaming related gaming, I love watching @acidyo playing CS:go and League of legends, multiplayer gaming is one of the awesome feature that we can see on Dlive

Yes it is a new phase of gaming.

We need to keep in mind the streaming world has been around for about 10 years now.

I am sure some publishers take it in mind. But the biggest player in streaming is Amazon. They purchased Twitch awhile back and use it to funnel sales to their ecommece platform.

To me the biggest “newest” winner of gaming And streaming is dungeons and dragons. Sales have skyrocketed from streaming of game sessions.

Off to work.

Well I think this is the latest trend in the gaming world.
I doesn't matter how heavy or good the game is streaming is there is all. I play battleground, and I love it. This is something that needed a change or else people were getting bored with GTA haha. Though I still play GTA as I am a gaming fan and I would love to see more and more changes.

The new concept of streaming is something that keeps the gamer interested, there are no Same levels, everytime we try something new as we play with different people everytime we login. So this concept is really interesting and I myself am planning to make a game with my brother.
Thanks a lot for sharing this post and I appreciate your time and efforts. Good work.
Looking forward to see more posts from you sir.

So right that it is a new world of gaming! I am stuck a bit in the past, but these new ones are pretty intriguing.

In my opinion it is kinda sad to see that games buisness is bigger than ever yet we rarely see some truly new good content. It has all become remastering old games or just making copies of the game that is most popular currently.
Im afraid that bigger money in gaming industry will ruin it like it did with many things (look at football or f1 formula, sports completly ruined by money). Lets just hope im wrong.

A game always becomes interesting if it is multiplayer, the fact of integrating people through a game increases the sales of any manufacturer, that is proven.

I think your comment about story based games probably being less streaming-friendly (that's how I inferred your comment anyway :D) is totally true. However I think this becomes much less of an issue when it is a retro game (NES, Genesis, MS-DOS, etc) because either A) viewers get to relive the nostalgia of a game they are very familiar with or B) get to experience a game they may have only ever heard of, and would not have played to begin with.
Thanks for your thoughts on gaming, as always @whatageek!

The only downside is when a game is a heavy story based game. If you watch someone play it from start to finish it might no longer be a game you want to buy.

This is true, i might not be so interested in a game anymore after ive watched it played by someone

With that in mind do you think a lot of game companies are keeping streaming in mind when they make games?

Not at all, look at a couple of them, story based mode games...but look at a game like GTA, different story lines but similar missoon

Living in this world is also a game.
