Dirt 5 free for PS-Plus members: Too bad it's a microtransaction scam again

I really hate this trend in Playstation Plus. I look forward to the "free" games each month but it seems like every 3rd game or so is a free game that is designed to make the people who like the game pay in order to progress. Sure you don't have to pay, but if you don't do so it is going to take you absolute ages to unlock things that you want for your car.

Yeah, the game looks great and the preview of it is awesome but as soon as I did the massive download in anticipation of a great looking off road racing game I was greeted with a HUGE end user license agreement that you had to scroll down to the bottom of before it would let you move to the next screen.

Then when I finally made it past that I was greeted with a "cookie and privacy policy" that was just as long and again, you had to scroll to the very end of it before it would let you have access to the game. When you do finally get to the main menu it becomes apparent, very quickly, that this is just another one of those pay to win games.

selecting any of these options results in a spinning loading ball that I hate no matter what game it is in but in Dirt, and other games like it, it isn't just because the next part of the game is loading, it is because it is accessing online content that while it might appeal to some people to purchase more and more micro-transaction garbage for their car, doesn't appeal to me at all.

The last time PS Plus did this to it's users was some WWE game that looked cartoonish but fun. I was quite excited about this until yet again, I was greeted with massive EULA agreements and legal crap on my screen before I could even play. You want to play as Undertaker or even against him? Well, you can't unless you pay $4.99 or get enough in-game credits by having a ton of matches between a couple of unknowns that are unlocked when you fire the game up.

I got about 1.5 matches into that game before I deleted it.

If PS Plus keeps this up I think this will be my last year as a customer. When you are paying for a membership you shouldn't be subjected to fake-ass "free" games. I don't care if the games are old as shit or are 16-bit graphic platformers, but please for the love of God stop with the bullshit. I am not going to EVER pay for in-game content on these things and I pity the people that do. Honestly? Who is driving this corporate scheme? Who is actually buying this shit? I'm not going to spend tens of dollars on pay-to-win schemes for online play in any game. I'd rather pay full price for a complete game.

There is no such thing as free in the world, I realize this, but I am paying for a subscription and this just feels like betrayal. My grinding days are done. I did that in multiple MMO's and if any game I play has some sort of paywall built into it, it is easy to identify from the main menu. Other than Doom, I will bail on any game that even remotely appears to be this way.

This is probably the thing i hate the most. Paying to get further is super frustrating.... ah i get so angry

I agree. These days if I have to agree to some lawyer-ish sounding 40,000 word agreement just to play a "free" game I am going to immediately back out of it and delete it. If enough people do this, the industry will stop trying to make this happen. Unfortunately, the most financially successful games of all time are all microtransaction games but they were all mobile. I thought we would be safe from this on consoles but no, they got their claws into that as well.

They just better stay away from pc, but i think they already here as well with battle pass and subscription

Last month saw a lot of incredible titles and this month is no different. Starting April 7, members of this incredible platform will be able to pick up Dirt Rally 2.0 for absolutely nothing. All you have to do is head to the PlayStation Store and visit the PS plus tab.
