I'm sure that there are millions of others out there that share this sentiment about this upcoming release. There is no clear release date and I am happy that Team Cherry are not rushing things the way that so many other studios do. Their last title Hollow Knight was so epic that I'd like to hope that they are making damn sure that the game is 100% ready to launch when it does.
It's been 5 years since they took the indie gaming world by storm and made what I consider to be one of the most polished and perfect games of all time. I would like to believe that Silksong will be a similar experience, but they have some seriously big shoes to fill with their follow-up title.

For those of you that haven't given Hollow Knight a shot, I sincerely hope that you will do so although it wont appeal to just anyone. For many, the gaming style might seem a bit too dated but for those people that would feel that way, just know that there are many gamers like myself out there that don't like newer games that rely on graphics and realistic cutscenes too heavily. In Hollow Knight the gameplay is very basic but mastering said gameplay certainly is NOT. The game has 3 endings and only the most grizzled of players will ever see the 3rd one. I know that I haven't and have no intention of ever doing so.
With Silksong we don't know a great deal about the game other than the fact that it is going to use a similar art and music style that Hollow Knight did and to fans of the original, this is exactly how we want it to be.

In the new game we take on the role of "Hornet" who was a central figure in Hollow Knight that played a major role as a non-controllable player who was first an enemy that became an ally due to having the same mission. She wasn't a terribly difficult "boss" to defeat but her character was very interesting and mysterious in the overall story.
From the trailers that I have seen they have decided upon making her skillset very different from the "Knight" and again, this is a very good thing provided they can pull it off. It would be very disappointing if the skills suck and everyone is just wishing that they could play with "Knight" instead. This must be a very difficult task for the devs to pull off but Team Cherry hasn't let us down thus far so let's just stay hopeful that they wont start now.

Silksong is going to incorporate elements of gaming that I enjoy above all others. Lots of exploration including paths that you are not yet meant to go down yet as well as certain things blocking your path that you cannot get through without some sort of upgrade that you haven't accomplished yet. New areas will be discovered that upon completion will open up fast-travel to and from those areas, and they will also have rather difficult bosses that become easy once you understand the timing and patters of said boss. It is rumored to have a TON of optional content just like its predecessor as well. All of these things combined are what I consider to be a perfect gaming experience. You see, I'm one of those guys that tends to shy away from ultra-high-res modern graphics and 3D gameplay because more often than not (at least IMO) this can actually take away from the overall experience rather than add to it. I think that most AAA studios have focused too heavily on this aspect of the game and fail to consider whether or not the game itself is actually any fun to play.
I can't really understand gamers that don't enjoy this kind of experience because provided they stick with the concept of the original, it is as difficult or as easy as you want it to be without a difficulty selector. The base ending in Hollow Knight was relatively easy to accomplish - although there were some seriously tough bosses mixed in there - but the true end game is something only a handful of gamers are capable of ever accomplishing.
Team Cherry has been very tight-lipped about when the game will be released and based on the failure of some games that stuck to a release date even if the game wasn't ready, I'm happy they are doing this. I would rather wait for a completed product than be involved in some accidental alpha-testing that is just going to piss people off.
When this game is released I will buy it on release date and this is something I almost never do. I am a late adopter of games and will almost always wait for a sale. There are some exceptions to this frugal rule though, and Silksong will be one of them. Hopefully it will be released in 2022.
