Here in this blog, i will be updating my article about old games especially game that was released for MS-DOS Platform.Here, I would not be just reviewing the game, but also try to experience how it feels to play the game. I am reviewing or playing these old games is in order to bring back or just remembering all of those sweet memories that I have in the old days. So, for those of you who never play the game that I reviewed in my article, do not worry, you still be able to play the game now, at the end of my article, i will give you the information on how you can install the game on your current PC or Mac, or if you do not want to do the hard work by installing this game, I will also give you the link so that you can play the game online. XCar - Experimental Racing
Good day everyone, in today post, I would like to talk about another old DOS game that can bring back our sweet memories about those games that we play in old days or when we were kids. The video game that I am going to review today is a game that belong to the genre of racing video games. A racing video game is consider an easy game to play. There is no much control that the player need to remember. Especially for this game that I am going to review is a very easy to play. The player only need to remember at least four keys. As the common control in racing video games, it is only controlled with four arrow keys on your computer.
If you are following my article until now, you will probably know that I love playing video games that belong to the genre of racing video game. There is a lot of my post here reviewing old racing video games, from ordinary racing video game, to the one that have a lot of feature in it. The video game that i am going to talk in this opportunity is also another racing video game called Xcar - Experimental Racing. This video game is almost similar to NASCAR competition in real life in term of the gameplay. The player will race in a track and a competition such as tournament or you can play quick race too. We will talk in more details about the gameplay later.
An now, as always, i would like to make the quick reminder about the video game restriction. This video game is not a violence video game. So, this video game is not restricted to age and it is available to be played by a wider range of age. Infact, it can be played by whoever want to play the game. Another good thing is that, because this game is an ordinary racing video game, this game is quite easy to play. The player only need to race to get the first spot at the finish line. So, this video game is very suitable for those of you who want to just play this game for relaxation.
Alright, Now, Let's start talking about this video game. We will start about the history, development, gameplay, game modes and give my opinion on this game at the end of this article.
Now, let's begin by learning a bit about this video game development.
The game XCar - Experimental Racing is a video game that belong to the genre of racing video game. This video game is a 3D racing video game. As the title suggest, the cars that used in this video game is a prototype super-cars. This video game was developed by Bad Dog. This video game was published by Bethesda Software and was released for DOS and Windows platform. The unique thing about this video game is indeed the car that players will drive. Cars that available to choose from are all based on prototype super-cars. So, basically it is not the car that we would found in the market, maybe now we will but not at the era of this game was released.
There are 16 cars in total that the player will be able to choose from when playing this game. Being these cars are all based on prototype cars, the player also will be be able to modify the car. Each cars that available are have their own unique characteristics. Then, if the player does not satisfied with the cars, the player can tweak the cars as they like. The tweak, i would say is quite details. You can tweak the cars down to it finest details, you can tweak the steering, it's gearbox, the cars aerodynamics, suspension of the car and many more. After you finished all the tweak as you want, the you are ready to go to the race and put your vehicle on the pit.
In details, the item that you can tweak from the cars that are available are as follow:
The player can choose several engines available in term of to tweak the cars. Those engine that the player can choose is V-6, Flat 6, Inline 6, V-8, and V-10. There will also be the information about the size, stroke, fuel, and weight for each engine.
Next specification of the car that can be tweak is the gearbox. There are 7 gears in total available. You can choose to your own liking when the time the gear will shift. You also can choose the gear type whether it is manual or Automatic.
The suspension of the car can also be tweak. You will be able to tweak for each of the four suspension which are front left, front right, rear left, and rear right. You also can tweak front rollbar and rear rollbar. The variable that you need to tweak for the suspension are rate and damper.
Another think that can be tweak is the fuel. There are a lot of variable that can be tweaked for the fuel. You can tweak the fuel tank. How much the car can hold the fuel in gallon size. Then, you can also choose what kind of fuel the car will use, you can choose between Gasoline and Methanol.
The variable that can be tweak for the steering are ratio, lock, and scale.
Next part that are also available for tweak is the aerodynamics of the car. You can tweak the variable for front wing and also rear wing. These variable are the lenght, width, endplate, chord ang and ang. Then, you also can change the underbody for rake degree and the downforce and drag of the car.
The final thing that available to tweak for the cars are the tires. You can choose the pressure, camber, stagger and toe for all four tires.
With all of these tweak available, this racing video game is arguably the most scientific sport there is for the its era. In Xcar, the player will be able to construct a car with all the tweak above to make the car more like the one that the player want. The player can choose the each tweak to test the car, see how the car will perform on the track and if it is still not good enough, the player can go back to re-tweak the car.
Xcar video game is the game that supposed to be a simulation of a real racing competition such as NASCAR and F1. But, here in the game, all the rule that apply to all those competition are not implemented. So, this video game can also be called an "unlimited racing" competition. There are only one rules that apply here in the game, which is the rule of physics. So, the player need to use their knowledge, skill, and determination.

In term of the game mode, there are 3 mode that the player can choose from. Those mode are Preseason, Quick Race and Race. Preseason game mode are the training race where the player can choose to practice and learn about how is the best tweak for the car. The Quick race mode is if the player just want to play the game to race with another opponent in a certain track for one race only. Then, there is the race mode where the player will start the game from qualification until the player able to compete in the real race. This mode is like tournament mode in another racing video games.

My opinion about XCar video games.
This is my first experience playing this video game. In term of the gameplay, I think this game is a very usual racing video game. There is nothing unique to it to make it more fun except the part where you can tweak the cars. After spending some time, i myself quite easily get board with this game. Because there is nothing fancy gameplay that this video game have. So, although i like playing racing video game. This one is not going to be on my list of favorite DOS racing game.
Another thing that i want to remind you is that, the game that i tried is from online source and it is only available for a demo version of this game. So, this could be the reason why the gameplay is not so fun for me since there is a limitation to it. such as i could not able to tweak the car as i want. The tweak is only can be fully complete in a full version of this game.

Before you can play the game, you need to install DOSBox. Then you will be able to play the game in DOSBox, Here are the step to do it.
- Unpack xcardemo.zip file.
- Open DOSBox and mount to game folder (Check out the video at the bottom of the article to see how to do it)
- Navigate Xcar folder games that you have downloaded and extracted.
- Execute INSTALL.BAT to install and play this game.
