Breaking Down GAMSAT Essay Stimuli

Section 2 is a unique part of the GAMSAT, not on the grounds that it isn't in the standard MCQ format, yet it truly can be the deciding factor of your clinical school candidature. Most people perform inadequately in Section 2, which will in general influence their whole application.

The standard approach to teaching the GAMSAT is that you need to compose an argumentative essay for the first stimuli, and afterward compose a personal reflective essay for the subsequent stimuli. This is not exactly correct. There is no requirement from ACER on this point, and it is completely dependent upon us!

In my opinion, I still think that the argumentative essay is useful, and particularly when we stumble upon subjects that extensively address legislative issues and inquiries of society, yet I intensely, vigorously urge my students to practice creative writing, whether it be a short story, a diary passage, a play, a poem, and so forth.

Creative writing is the most ideal way where you can show your agreement and understanding of human inclination, which, I think, is the main point of Section 2 in the GAMSAT.

The entire motivation behind GAMSAT Section 2 is to test:

(A) That you can figure out a contention and reach a sensible resolution and be sure of your decision (vital ability as a doctor)

(B) Sympathy through portraying feelings among characters and social relations in a story (a fundamental ability as a doctor!)

What follows is a methodology of mine while approaching the stimuli given in Section 2, where I will take a gander at the quotes, break down the stimuli, coax out the themes that are introduced, and afterward structure my essay.

At first, you really want to identify the theme. I will go through each quote and distinguish the different themes from each. I normally attempt to ponder the keywords here that will help me as well as the fundamental messages the creator is attempting to impart.

Since I have recognized the theme(s), I can tell that this paper would loan itself better to creative writing, for example. Thus, I will probably consider an expansive 'plot' wherein my short paper will fit in.

The following stage is to then contemplate a 'sub-plot' inside this more extensive plot that you will really compose on, which centers around a solitary occasion in this more extensive plot.

Next, think about the area of this sub-plot, the subject (for example main character), as well as the 'object' (for example what is the subject's principle interest/inspiration?). Then, at that point, you will have every one of the components you need to compose an innovative piece of writing!
