Talking about the GAMSAT, some people are naturally able to tackle it in a more relaxed manner, whereas others can feel more overwhelmed. Fortunately, it isn’t all terrible even for those of us who tend to look upon the GAMSAT exam with a grim outlook.

HOW TO ALLEVIATE GAMSAT STRESS BEFORE THE EXAM

You might feel overwhelmed because the GAMSAT requires a certain level of knowledge in the sciences, but it is widely understood that the exam focuses on testing students’ abilities to analyse information and present a solution rather than their ability to memorise formulas.

Make sure you go through the ACER information booklet so you’ll have a general idea of the concepts that will be tested in the exam. Try to familiarise yourself with the topics as often as possible by doing practice questions. This is a key point in any GAMSAT study plan.

You should also cultivate good, healthy habits, such as by keeping things in perspective, practicing relaxation techniques, make sure you keep up the fun, talk to someone when you need it, exercise regularly, make sure you get enough sleep, and eat well.

HOW TO ALLEVIATE GAMSAT STRESS DURING THE EXAM

You should keep in mind that not everyone who sits the GAMSAT ends up getting the score that they expect, even if they sit the exam multiple times. Remember that it is not the end of the world even if you don’t get the score that you were after.

You can practice relaxation techniques during the exam to keep yourself calm and centered.

Make sure you plan out the day and check the facilities at your test centre or how to get there before you arrive, so you don’t add to your stress levels by arriving late.

Make sure to bring enough food and caffeine, but keep things in moderation.

HOW TO ALLEVIATE GAMSAT STRESS AFTER THE EXAM

Keep a positive outlook in the early stages after a major exam like the GAMSAT, and only if you receive a less than ideal result should you go and reflect on what you could have done differently.

Make sure you reflect well after things have calmed down, not when you are still upset about the score. Reflection is important for improvement; however, stressing too much over it is not beneficial in the long run. On the contrary, it can be really dangerous to your overall well-being.
