Such festival was initiated by Bal Gangadhar Tilak also known as Lokmanya Tilak. The purpose of such festival by Tilak was to uniting and gathering people as a crowd symbol against British Government and spreading awareness about the freedom for the nation.Thus, for Tilak, Ganesh Festival as a means for creating Harmony among the people and creating feeling of oneness by celebrating such festival.
