Very Obsure Song! The Young Money Men - I Believed YousteemCreated with Sketch.

As I said in my first post, Garage Rock songs generally did not receive much airplay or notoriety. A local band might have written a song or two, practiced in their garage, got a record deal to cut their one song, and then disappeared. This was the 60s and the war in Viet Nam was on. So once some band members were out of high school, they had a good chance of being drafted. Others went to college or went into the family business. So it was hard to keep the band together if they didn't have a big hit right out of the gate.

In this post, I feature a true Garage Rock tune by a band called The Young Monkey Men. It has everything a classic Garage Rock song had. There is a slightly fuzzy overdriven guitar. The bass line is simple but catchy. The drums were also simple but kept the beat. The lyrics were about a "no good woman" who in this case, said she'd always be there, but then proved she never did care. The singer trusted her, and she broke his heart.

This song features another common Garage Rock element - the scream before the guitar solo. It happens at 0:57 and brings in the 30 second guitar solo. This is somewhat long for a 1966 rock song, but breaks like this more common the following year with songs like "Light My Fire" and of course the super long "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Can you name the bands who sang these 2 songs?

Now enjoy, probably for the first time in your life, The Young Monkey Men!

The Doors sang Light My Fire, back in 67'. Another song of theirs that is my favorite is Riders of the Storm. Not sure I have heard these other two.

YES! The Doors sang Light My Fire, good work! Let's see if anyone else remembers who sang In A Gadda Da Vida, which was originally In The Garden of Eden, but they were so stoned when they recorded it that the words got changed around. :)
