Hydroponic gardening using PVC pipe - test results

in gardening •  7 years ago

So there is a great blog, http://www.thehappycultivator.com that covers lots of DIY home hydroponics and indoor gardening stuff. I wanted to share some info from one of the posts on that site. It relates to the safety of using PVC pipe for growing your plants or produce in it.

I was curious about whether the Vinyl Chloride from the PVC might be something to be concerned about so in comes these test results as seen on the above mentioned site...

So I recommend reading the whole article if you are interested in this but I am including the link to the water test they did (PDF) that shows the level of Vinyl Chloride in the PVC hydroponics unit. They grew plants in the PVC for quite a while and when they tested the water it came back at safe levels...

Hope this info may be of interest to other DIYers and home hydroponics enthusiasts.
