Tomato Friends

While checking on the gardens, I noticed a few bad big tomato and starting picking them. When I picked one, I was about to throw it when I noticed a little buddy on the tomato.

He told me he needed a little help, so I let him on my finger and helped him to a new place in the garden.

I did pick a few tomatoes, but I am not too thrilled green tops. They seem a bit underdone.

Very nice post !!

Hi @deanlogic. You don't seem to be having much luck with your toms. Over here in the UK we are struggling with the weather. Very wet and dull. Not much sun around to ripen things.

The romas and cherry are doing fine. I am guessing the lack of watering is doing in my big tomatoes. I just didn't plan well with them.

I got myself one of those self-watering systems this year. Works a treat. Saves on having to water every day.

Unfortunately, the Side Micro-Garden isn't close enough for that, without having a hose to trip over on a daily basis.

However, I did win a drip watering system, but it was after I setup the gardens. I plan on using it next season for the Front Micro-Garden and the Grilling Deck Grow Bags.

You don't need a connected hose for the system I have. It is basically a trough filled with water plus feed and capillary matting takes the water up into the plant pots. I did a post a few months ago about it which you may find informative here. I've been looking at the drip system as well. I may invest in one next year for our raised beds. Thanks for the comment. :-D

Is that a praying mantis? Looks like you might have tomato worm also.... keep an eye out him! Those toamos will make some real nice fried green tomatoes!

Yes, a little praying mantis.
No tomato worm, just cracked and overripe tomatoes. The flies were enjoying them.

I bet, good luck!

I love praying mantis! I had an amzing encounter with one yesterday, a lot like yours! How fun.

They must be the most social bugs ever. Because, it never fails that they will hang around and let you pick them up. But, got feel sorry for the dudes.. .LOL

Unfortunate that this happened to your tomatoes, but at least you have some that are pulling through! : )

Thats certainly unique, seen all kind of bugs on tomatoes but never a Mantis!
