My Tiny Garden - Where did you come from?

in gardening •  7 years ago  (edited)

Out of all the little Streprocarpus plants I grew last year from seed* I got this yellow one. Only one! And I am wondering how did that happen. I am super pleasantly surprised about it. I heard that yellow Streps are hard to get. I know it is not fully yellow, but that's fine. It's mine!

See the furry assistant? :)

Yes, one of the parents have some yellow on the bottom part of the flower, but the rest is dark. The other parent is all purple. And the siblings are mostly purple or navy blue.

Look at the other ones from the same parents. They are all sisters and brothers :)
I still have two plants that didn't bloom at all. Soon hopefully :)

And one of the parents: Streptocarpus Harlequin Damsel

*I crossbred two of my Streptocarpus plants, picked the seeds and sowed them. After a while they started to bloom and every single one is different. I don't do it professionally. I was just curious of the results and if it is actually possible :)

Beautiful photos and flowers. I have not seen such in shops. Are they probably difficult to grow? It is very interesting to look at the results of their work on crossing!

They are beautiful. Not hard. Just like African Violets :)
And the can be propagated from a leaf like a Violet too. But they grow a lot bigger.

It is hot over here. I had 3 violets, left 1. Anyway, we do not have Streprocarpus :-(
