As Old Global Structures Crumble, will a Kind of Techno-Agrarian Society Emerge?

in gardening •  7 years ago

It is clear that old and corrupted structures are being exposed and are in collapse. (Good riddance!) I see waves of fear about this, but I am hopeful about new, green movements in growing food.

Urban gardening is exploding across the world. Organic food has been trending upwards for a long time, too. As these large collapses shock the population, we may have no choice but to garden the lands around us, especially in the cities.

My vision is that technology is going to help us quite a bit. I see new efforts such as vertical farming in buildings, rooftop gardens, and hydroponics emerge all the time. This is especially true in crowded Asian cities.

I'll be sharing my vision about this future for my first few Steemit posts. I'll also be sharing my personal favorite style of gardening, which is called Hugelkultur. Look it up!

Basically, Hugelkultur is burying logs and wood pieces in a mound, then growing on top of it. The twigs provide a structure for the roots. It holds water like a sponge, meaning less is needed. It is also compost in action and provides nutrients to the plants on top.

Hugelkultur Addition to Raised Bed.jpg (an amendment I recently made, just add sticks, then soil!)

Leave a comment so we can discuss this and figure out new, green ways of moving forward while laughing in the face of the collapse of the old! Have a good one.
