Hi, I will give some of my experience how to cultivate oyster mushrooms.
Oyster mushroom cultivation is suitable for tropical climates such as Indonesia. The investment required to start the cultivation of oyster mushrooms is quite cheap and can be done gradually. The hardest part is making baglog, planting medium that has been inoculated with fungus seeds.
The Latin name of oyster mushroom is Pleurotus ostreatus, belonging to the Basidiomycota group. It is called oyster mushroom because the shape of the canopy resembles the oyster shell. Semi-shaped white. In the wild, white oyster mushrooms are commonly found on rotted logs. Perhaps because of that, oyster mushrooms are often called wood mushrooms.
There are two main activities in the cultivation of oyster mushrooms. The first stage is to make the planting media and inoculate the seeds of mushrooms into the planting medium. So the media overgrown with white mycelium like cotton. The second stage is to grow the mycelium into a fruit body.
For newcomers, usually start cultivation activities by growing baglog into fruit flesh. While procurement, baglog ready to grow obtained by buying from other parties. Then after the cultivation effort grows and the volume is much, just try to make baglog own.
In this paper will, I will review the steps that must be prepared to start the cultivation of white oyster mushrooms.
Setting up the kumbung
Kumbung or mushroom house is a place to take care of baglog and grow mushrooms. Kumbung is usually a building, filled with shelves to put baglog. The building must have the ability to maintain temperature and humidity.
Kumbung is usually made from bamboo or wood. The wall of kumbung can be made from gedek or board. The roof is from tile or shingle. Do not use asbestos or zinc roofs, because the roof will bring heat. While the floor should not be plastered. In order for water used to flush the fungus can seep.
Inside the kumbung is equipped with a rack of grilles made of storied. The shelf serves to compile a baglog. Rack frames can be made of bamboo or wood. Shelves lined up. Between the shelves one with the other separated by aisle for treatment.
The size of the height of the space between shelves should be not less than 40 cm, shelves can be made 2-3 levels. Width of shelf 40 cm and length of each segment 1 meter rack. Each rack segment of this size can contain 70-80 baglog. The shelf requirements are adjusted to the number of baglogs to be cultivated.
Before baglog put into kumbung, you should do the preparation first. Here are the steps:
Clean the kumbung and the shelves to keep the baglog from the dirt. Calcify and spray with fungicides on the inside of the kumbung. Let stand for 2 days, before baglog put into kumbung.Setelah drug odor disappear, enter baglog which is ready to be grown. The entire surface was covered with white fibers.
Setting up a baglog
Baglog is a planting medium where laying oyster mushroom seeds. The main ingredient of baglog is sawdust, because oyster mushrooms include wood mushrooms. Baglog wrapped in cylindrical plastic, where one end is given a hole. In the hole oyster mushrooms will grow poking out.
In the cultivation of large-scale oyster mushrooms, mushroom farmers usually make their own baglog. But for beginner farmers, or farmers with limited capital usually baglog purchased from other parties. So farmers can focus on running a cultivation business.
How to take care of baglog
There are two ways of arranging baglogs in a rack, which is placed vertically where the baglog hole faces up. And horizontally, the baglog hole faces sideways.
Both ways have their respective advantages. Baglogs arranged horizontally are safer than water spray. If watering is excessive, water will not enter the baglog. In addition, to make harvesting easier. Only, the preparation of horizontal space more space.
The following ways of treatment of oyster mushroom cultivation is as follows:
Before baglog is compiled, first open the baglogging ring and paper. Then let stand for about 5 days. When the floor is made of soil do watering to add moisture. After that, cut the tip of baglog to give wider growth space. Let for 3 days do not first watered. Just watering on the floor only. Do watering with sprayer. Watering should form a mist, not water droplets. The more perfect the better the better. The frequency of watering 2-3 times a day, depending on temperature and moisture kumbung. Keep the temperature in the range of 16-24oC.
Harvest cultivation of oyster mushrooms
Clean the kumbung and the shelves to keep the baglog from the dirt. Calcify and spray with fungicides on the inside of the kumbung. Let stand for 2 days, before baglog put into kumbung.Setelah drug odor disappear, enter baglog which is ready to be grown. The entire surface was covered with white fibers.
When the baglog used by its surface has been perfectly covered with mycelium, usually within 1-2 weeks of opening the lid of baglog, the fungus will grow and can be harvested. Baglog mushrooms can be harvested 5-8 times, if the treatment is good. Baglog that weighs about 1 kg will produce mushrooms as much as 0.7-0.8 kg. After that baglog removed or can be used as compost material.
Harvesting is done on mushrooms that have bloomed and enlarged. Precisely when the edges have been seen tapered. But the hood has not broken the color is still pure white. When the harvest period through half a day only then the color becomes a bit brownish yellow and tudungnya broke. When it's like this, the mushrooms will quickly wilt and not last long. The first harvest distance to the next harvest ranges from 2-3 weeks.
Hopefully the experience I share with you is useful and good luck.
