SILIŅI. Blackcurrant propagation. PART 2. Did I messed up?

in gardening •  7 years ago  (edited)

Allready when I put those blackcurrant twigs in the bucket I knew that it is too small for 70 pcs. I was hoping that the roots are not going to develop for a while and when it happens, it will be wormer and I will be able to plant them outside. At the moment winter ir Latvia is kicking in quite hard. It's snowing almoust every day and tempreture is about -5C [daytime] and -10 [at night]. And in whether news thay say that it is going to be much colder this week. I started this "project" about 3 weeks ago, and already the blackcurrant has a bumch of leaves and even some "bud flower's".

I checked a couple of the twigs few days ago and I noticed that they have quite big roots allready. That only means it was time to replant them. BUT WHERE?

@hopfarmnc showed a wery good idea how to use emty TP rolls for starting seeds. that could work, tut we don't use TP and there is no way I could get enough of them in a short time. So I decided to use some papper that we had in the garage. Plan was simple: to make "papper cones" and put the twigs in them.

For now I could say that the plan worked. I stacked all 70 plants in two buckets. But now I have new concerns:

  • Is the papper going to hold long enouph.
  • Is there going to be enouph space for roots to evolve.

Lets just hope that the spring is goint to come fast enouph and the roots won't tear the wet papper apart.

Hope you will have a great day ;)
