Container Gardening Is A Wonderful Way To Express Your Creativity....

What to grow this year?
Oh me, oh my, so many choices to make.

It is that time of year when I go back over last years planting schedule and garden guides trying to decide what to grow differently this year. The seed catalogs are piled high and ordering has begun. I still can't help looking for that special, out of the ordinary plant to take center stage in my containers this year. Have you found something different in your search?

I thought I would take a moment to share some of my classic container gardens. I make some of these every year for my faithful gardening friends. They ask me to plant their containers each year as they no longer are able.

"Deck Railing Boxes"

These boxes have a groove in the bottom of each box that allows you to place them on top of your railings on the deck. I put Geraniums, Lantana, Gerbera Daisies, Licorice Vine, Lobelia and Salvia. They were all perfect for the sunny location and are wonderful butterfly attracting flowers.

"Geraniums in the Greenhouse"

These are still in my greenhouse and awaiting their final planting area. So many flowers and vegetables and only myself to plant them all. I am totally addicted to my gardens. lol

"Another Deck Box"

Here I used the typical Spike for the center and surrounded it with Geraniums and Red Salvia. Trailing Vinca vine, White Verbena and Purple flowers complete the Red, White and Blue theme my customer asked for.

"Shade Garden"

This container patio pot sits in a shaded area on the North side of my friends house. I planted it with a center spike surrounded with trailing Vinca and Sweet Potato Vines. I chose hot Salmon colored New Guinea Impatiens for a pop of color in the pot.

By the end of each growing season the vines are sprawling on the ground around the pots for a glorious display of contrasting colors. The lime and burgundy potato vines look amazing with the hot colors of the Impatiens.

"Young plants growing in Greenhouse"

These are all just starting to branch out and fill in. It will be no time at all until these will all be planted into a variety of container gardens. I may even place some of the vines in my gardens this year too.

"Sunny Container Garden"

This patio pot gets a little more sun than the others, I chose Red Geraniums with Red Hot Salvia to add punch to this container. The vines can handle a bit of sun so this should fill out nicely.

"Greenhouse full of Seedlings"

Here are a few of the seedlings I started last year. They are just starting to fill in and get some height. I think I took this picture in April last year on a nice spring day. I got to open up the doors and offer them some natural wind which helps to toughen them up for their final planting spots.

I would love to see some of your container garden photos this year. It is always fun to see how fellow gardeners create their masterpieces for all to enjoy. Happy Gardening Everyone!

Beautiful! I wish I had green fingers...😣

Thank you @giantbear keep trying!

That's a great greenhouse setup that you have! And I can see why your friends like you making them some container gardens. Your friends must know the saying, "If you can't cultivate a garden, cultivate a friendship with a gardener"! They are fortunate to have you as their gardening friend. Here's to great gardens, in containers, too, for 2017!

Thank you @haphazard-hstead I love my greenhouse. It took me awhile to design and build the inside to best utilize the space. It has produced a gazillion plants over the years. Funny, how friends love to come and see what I am growing and to get the best plants early in the season. Love, love, love to garden and all the joy it brings to my life.

That so great! You have some fortunate friends! A greenhouse just feels so nice and warm early in the season, too. Our biological clocks notice the longer days. So seeing all the new growth in your greenhouse has got to be something innate for us all. Especially in your region, where winter can be a long time in leaving! ; )

Beautiful container garden photos! I like these colorful flowers! Great gardening!

Thank you @tangmo I love to put them together, and try to make them different every year too.

That's really great! :)

Thank you so much @tangmo for your nice comment
