Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

in gardenofeden •  6 years ago

It is another epic day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our volunteers over our handmade earthen rocket stoves in our sustainable outdoor kitchen today!

We had a beautiful Indian feast basmati rice, chicken curry, and sautéed onions and mushrooms in tomato masala sauce with organic whole milk yogurt, garden chives, zucchini & bell pepper.

The rice turned out light, tender, and fluffy. We added some extra spices like cardamom for extra fragrance and flavor.

Curry is a classic Indian dish, and it is also the name of an herb as well as a spice combination. It is similar to a Texas chili, in the sense that it is a particular style of stewed/simmered meat and/or vegetables named after its most important spice flavor component, it is often in a tomato based sauce, and there are countless variations for preparing the "perfect" one!

The chicken curry we made today had a tomato based sauce with lots of onions and garlic, curry powder, ginger, coriander, and coconut milk, plus some spicy Eden peppers for a little heat. We also made a vegetarian version for those of us who did not want meat today.

We dolloped on some whole milk yogurt to add a cool creamy sauce to the spicy curry, and served some raw veggies on the side as a delicious garnish! It was a classic, comforting meal, and as always we made enough for everyone to eat as much as they wanted!

It's very pleasant to share a meal together at the end of a day, and having quality food helps keep spirits high and bodies healthy!

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is one of our rocket stoves in action - we built it by hand out of dirt.

Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!

Photos are original to our epic feast and highlight just a taste of the thousands upon thousands of free meals we share every single year.
