The Keto Diet

in gathering •  7 years ago  (edited)

This past Friday I started on the keto diet (06-15-2018).

[disclaimer: this is a short article about my experience with the keto diet. If you don’t know what keto is, then check out this literature to get up to speed first: https://www.perfectketo.com/guide/the-ketogenic-diet/]

Opting for keto may seem like an unusual choice for a busy CEO — after all, carbs and sugars have been powering my brain for the past many years and got me here. But the reality is ketosis (the metabolic state that a keto diet brings a person into), though it’s dificult to adhere to, may be a more efficient way of delivering energy to the body and mind than carb-driven metabolic states. I’m keen to see if I can reap benefits of additional energy with keto.

Another common misconception for keto is that the food can seem too plain to be appetizing. But with the right cooking it’s pretty awesome — here’s my keto menu for this month: https://www.pinterest.com/0y8nzgm6wxbn25r/keto-menu/ Let me know what you think.

Lastly, lots of cryptocurrency folks are into the diet. Including Zooko Wilcox who founded ZCash. And Jeffrey Paul, aka sneak, who was the first person to give me a full download of its benefits. H/t, sneak. The popularity of keto among such a demographic could be a valuable indication.

I’ve never succeeded fully with sustaining keto but now I’m prepared to do it well for a few months.

What was your experience with keto?

I’ve been on Keto for about a year. Lost 50 pounds. But my blood chem results are now as healthy as it can be. BMI has gone from 28 to 20..The early stage for me was constant dehydration. I must have drank gallons of water per day. If you get the Keto rash, drop out and try again. Orthostatic hypotension is common during adaptation ( dizziness when going from sitting to standing) so watch the electrolytes.

Dietdoctors.com had very good keto recipes. Keto Ice cream made with heavy whip cream and cacao is awesome. Stevia is the only sweetener for any Keto diet.

Good luck! We’ll soon see you much slimmer!

You should give intermittent fasting a try, Its no diet but a lifestyle... especially for entrepreneurs :)

Agreed, I like intermittent fasting much better. I've tried keto and hate it. Plus I like pizza 🍕. Keto pizza is garbage.

Isn't Keto pizza basically just eating the meat and cheese toppings off of it, lol? I've seen people do that with forks while on that diet. Savages, I tell ya!

Cauliflower crust pizza constitutes as keto friendly pizza. Try it out, very light and tastes good.

wow just eat regular food lol, steemians in Africa could have eaten that cauliflower

Says the guy who eats candy and ice cream almost every day :P

Ah, I didn't even think of that! My fiancee was planning on getting some pizza from our local pizza joint that has that type of crust tomorrow. I'll try it out and see what it's like :)

Ooh, I still want to try alternative pizza crusts like the cauliflower one. I also want to use cauliflower as substitute for rice soon. Have you ever done that?

Check out Zucchini pasta - I'm not sure about rice substitutes.

There's also something called Carbquik that is like a carb-less dough. I tried making a pizza with that once ... it kinda worked. It's much more of a bisquit-y consistency though

How do you deny payout on comments?

Yeah, you even had go hit the pizza place when we was on the las vegas strip haha

lol

I agree! Intermittent fasting is good but with the crypto crash I have practiced "Don't ever eat because you are the HODL champion of the world!"
You have seen the original before and after transformation.

Here is my latest update pictures since crypto continues to get beat to hell. I'm the leanest I have ever been!

fasting is key. Drink pure water and avoid salt at all costs.

I like to put salt in my water jk 😂

I always have a little water with my salt!

bro is that Old Luke skywalker in ur avatar photo?

Yes it is you are the first one to notice.

Some varieties of salt may contain trace amounts of calcium, potassium, iron and zinc. Iodine is often added to table salt (2, 3). The essential minerals in salt act as important electrolytes in the body. They help with fluid balance, nerve transmission and muscle function.Jun 18, 2017

hahah sorry just wanted to trigger you :)

Intermittent fasting and keto are perfectly to combine since fasting is the ultimate keto boost

No, he shouldn't. Why starve yourself when you can eat keto and get the same beneficial effects of intermittent fasting but without being hungry?

You don't starve yourself, before commenting... research what it is.

I hope you are aware of our newest competitor UUNIO. Their only aim is to be better than steemit by giving everyone an equal vote and by removing the 7 day payout period, to create life long payout possibilities for past efforts. Sounds scary if they achieve it the way they want to. The concept removes a lot of our problems instantly. But they are still in very early ICO stage and they don't have a big community, so you have time to improve steemit.

Yours was supposed to be the steemit but with bitcoin and I don't really hear much about it...I think steemit has been quiet for a while and is about to announce some major news in the coming weeks

We have been providing weekly updates through @steemitblog, the official blog for Steemit, Inc.

  • Content Director, Steemit

thank you for the link

Every decision our engineers make with respect to the blockchain is intentional and designed to ensure that Steem is sustainable and scalable. We have seen countless projects over the years that raise money through ICOs making bold claims but that fail to back them up with actual code. We welcome all competitors, but will not adjust our strategy or plans based on supposed claims made by people looking to piggyback off of our brand. If someone creates better code, we're happy to integrate it. Unfortunately, the competitors never seem to materialize. There are many reasons for the 7 day pay out. People dramatically overestimate the value of so-called "evergreen" content while dramatically underestimating the cost to the blockchain of infinite payouts. But we wish UUNIO all the luck in the world ... they're going to need it.

That response made my day! Thank you.
" bold claims but that fail to back them up with actual code. " Exactly what I was thinking. Right now they have nothing, just "we want to do this and that"

But the best thing about your response is, that you actually are aware of competitor strategies and seem to have discussed it in the developer team. That's great.

But: We all would appreciate more communication though. Weekly updates about what you are doing, planning and thinking would be greatly appreciated. I know you heard that a thousand times already, but the communication frequency sucks!

"If someone creates better code, we're happy to integrate it. " Thank you!

Removing the 7 day payout period is interesting. But equal vote, lol, there's no chance it will work.

Think about all the grub spammers we have here. They're a little annoying, but don't matter too much. People like that will quickly eat that eco system to nothing.

Combine it with a reputation system to filter out spammers, and it will be fine. Like with a bad rep, your vote only is 1/20 of everyone else and spammers won't be a problem. ( I realise that our current rep sytem will not work for that)

Hmm. I mean if they create a great reputation system that works in a meaningful way, then ya. Then that's the breakthrough, and it'll be bigger than even social media. Easier said than done. Is there reason to believe they have this? Like is that the point, they think they've figured out a way to do reputation and ratings?

I don't mean just spammers btw. I mean, that grubby motivation. The people who break UUNIO won't be spammers per se, they'll be a level up trying to pass off as normal users but actually just cybil attacking it.

The reputation system would have to be amazing and revolutionary for there to not be an easy angleshoot.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Check out StackExchange sites. They use a system that depends on a minimal number of users to work. Doesn't work for few users. (Hence they close sites betas when few questions or < 90% answer rates.)

There are many reputation systems that depend on percolation to work. An exciting subject with a lot of literature being published as we speak.

It's a really hard problem, I agree, to make a reputation system which works with even small numbers of users online at once and using the front end. My own belief is basically that separate actions requires separate reputations and that actions must be randomly reviewed. But is still a percolation based system at the moment. Can be gamed if few users are online, with a predictable recurrence of this.

Definitely an exciting subject. I followed you and am interested in the reputation system you're working on.

As far as StackExchange goes, I'm not familiar with it, but it doesn't look like you receive a token or money reward? So the incentive to game it is completely different, and you don't need as sophisticated of a reputation system in that case. Apples and oranges.

If UUNIO is giving out tokens for upvotes, any little imperfection will be gamed hard.

Thanks for subscribing.

My channel will be describing the details of what we're making.

And it will be open source.

Check out: https://Mathoverflow.net and https://StackOverflow.com.

And in general: https://stackexchange.com/

Correct: they don't give out tokens. But their reputation system is much more sophisticated.

And they reverse votes when it seems somebody as indicated by correlation upvotes or downvotes somebody regardless of what they post.

They have random review and thresholds for certain actions.

Reputation actually controls moderating power in that system. So people still desire upvotes; somewhat like tokens. And popular discussions get tens of thousands of views. People want that.

Thanks for the info.

Reputation actually controls moderating power in that system. So people still desire upvotes; somewhat like tokens. And popular discussions get tens of thousands of views. People want that.

Right, I'm not saying there isn't any motivation to want the votes, but winning moderating power and views is a lot different than winning tokens of value. For one, those things only matter when the network is successful, so it's inherently contained to be something that you don't want to go too far with.

Their model works for those incentives, but it doesn't mean something similar would work for UUNIO if they're giving out tokens.

Incidentally I just made a post about ratings systems if you're interested (was thinking about it and was already starting it during these comments lol).

p.s. I see that you also knew to avoid Ties in the blocktrades world cup 😆 kudos, see you at the finish line if there's any justice in the world

A team of eight including myself is planning on making an alternative reputation system for Steem: one which can also double for and be used in academic publishing and reviewing.

"Equal vote" to good to be true.

Removing the 7 day period is massive. Why would anyone in their right mind use dtube when YouTube pays out indefinitely into the future rather than stopping after a week. Passive income is the best.

Going keto + IF was one of the best decisions in my life. Well-being much better, I have a lot more energy. Brain fog practically does not happen. You can sleep less and sleep better. Man ceases to be a slave of food. There are a lot of benefits, it's difficult to name them all.

Very good share @teamsteem. It is good to get the facts out there. From experience and evidence, I believe vegan or plant-based diets are best for us.

@teamsteem thank you for being on top of this.

Wow good for you, I’ve heard good things about the keto diet and do believe our bodies aren’t designed to digest the processed carbs and sugars that are the norm in American Diets. I tend to try to make everything myself so I can control the ingredients and eat fresh as much as I can. But I also like to bake 😬... a strict keto diet could be tough stops editing the cheesecake photos for her future post

Good for you for putting your health first especially with such a busy schedule. Also, it’s nice to see this personal side of you on your blog!

For sure we aren't designed to eat anything processed. Cutting out processed carbs like bread and pasta might make sense (too delicious for meeez tho 😆😊). But we certainly aren't designed to eat another species' growth formula either lol. And afaik Ketos love their cheese and butter.

So I have a hard time believing Ketos have a real commitment to what our bodies are designed to handle.

I think it's just an improvement over the standard American diet in that it cuts out the processed foods, and still hits some of the same comforts. But hard to square the circle of where loading up on cheese and bacon can be healthy.

I'd rather just smash in healthy foods (fruits, veggies, grains, nuts) and not have to treat everything like a science experiment, of like when and how you do everything.

I feel like I'd want to go to the doctor like every week if I was on Keto, to make sure everything looks okay lol.

(Not hating, and curious how this works out for Ned, just sharing a perspective for whatever it's worth.. I just really don't think Keto is a good long-term thing.. it might be a good cleanse, I'd like to see Ned slide into High Carb / low fat / low processed / VEGAN after he decides this is cray cray 😄 .. no shortage of beautiful people posting delicious recipes here on Steemit to help)

Also doing this by intermittent fasting, my belly size decreased already.

IBS friendly?

If you are doing the KETO diet make sure you also do intermittent fasting....as a CEO I am sure it is hard enough to find time to eat...well try not eating for 16-20 hours and see how much better you feel

Wow, your keto menu looks way tastier than mine lol! Longest I've ever gone was 3 months but I'm trying to get back on it again. I'm convinced it's a superior fuel source for most people... best of luck!

I've done the atkins diet before. Which if you do it correctly. Has you using the keto sticks to measure ketosis. And Keto diet is all the rage in Silicone valley now.

The diet certainly does work. However fucking bread. And then you get tired of doing the diet.

If you are serious about radically altering your diet and will stick with it. Then fine. Many people, myself included, have stopped eating certain foods.

I no longer drink soda or coffee. I also stay away from sugary drinks like gatorade. I no longer eat foods/snacks with food coloring. I can taste the food coloring and it's just nasty. I stay away from fried foods. So no wings, french fries etc. Everything I eat is grilled, steamed or baked. I stay away from artificial sweeteners. And I also stay away from Vegetable Oil. Vegetable oil is bad for you. Causes an inflammatory response in your body. So stay away.

In any case. I wish you luck and hope you stick with it.

@ned I hope you know about the ketosis test strips - you can actually test to see if you're in that state.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

intermediate fasting while in ketosis will super charge your progress. make sure for the first week to remain hydrated with electrolytes.

keto is also the perfect diet for someone who does not have time to cook or follow a diet, most of my meals include in them all my macro [and sometimes micro] nutrients.

if you are traveling or extra busy, keep a bag of salted macadamia nuts and an avocado with you, those two foods will fill you up and kick you back into ketosis.

one last thing, after the first six weeks, you will be able to enjoy carb ups while remaining in top shape.

best health wishes, boss!

Really liked your post. Personally I've been through keto diet. The first few days were horrible especially the keto flu. But once I got used to it, the results were amazing. I almost lost 22lbs. Currently I follow IF diet. That works well for my metabolism. Thanks for sharing . Resteem dear

Thanks for sharing this @ned. I've heard about keto diets and how they aid fat-loss. But if you don't mind me asking, just because I'm curious, do you have energy on a keto diet? I've always heard that if you cut carbs you lack energy or it's reduced.

I've been trying carb fasts recently to try to get rid of my glycogen and start burning other things. I start feeling like I have brain fog after about 4 hours but I actually have better coordination and better mental functioning when I am not running on glycogen. Glycogen makes you feel like you are alert but I think it actually slows down your functioning.

I haven’t done Keto per se, but I have done Alkaline such as the Dr. Sebi diet. Very hard to get used to but man I sure felt a whole lot better! Who knew that keeping your body’s acidity levels higher on the pH scale would result in better overall health and stamina.

-Ken

Alkaline is the one I want to try soon. I don't want to follow a really strict diet though, so I'll probably go back to how I did things before, which was basically a gradual switch to more Alkaline diet based foods while eating less of the 'bad' stuff. It's hard to get too strict when you have a partner who doesn't want to change his diet too much :-)

Keto diet is really popular in Nigeria. Most meals here are carbs and people are becoming health conscious!!!

It will definitely take you to a good space!

The good thing is that you started to think about your health! 👍

Since you live in an environment that is full of marketing and is a part of your life, then it's normal to get involved in a marketing based diet. If you eat only junk food then Keto Diet is the way to go.

When your health gets improved and you start to like the first results, I would suggest to read some books about health. Start to question yourself on what exactly do you want and why you want that.

Like, for example, you want to be healthy and live longer than others? Then it is not about some nice sounding diet plan but a change of your lifestyle. And in this case maybe it is worth to look at those who actually live 100 years and even 114 or maybe even longer, to see what do they do, how they live and what they eat.

Just in case you survive Keto Diet and want some real lifelong changes that last. A quote from goodreads.com website from a book The Longevity Plan.

Eat good food
Master your mindset
Build your place in a positive environment
Be in motion
Find your rhythm
Make the most of your environment
Proceed with purpose

It is American doctor that was looking for some answers about health and writing about his findings. Now he makes money on his findings. Just in case you prefer marketing based health improvement systems. 😂

Hey bro, eat the right things in the right way is important for our health but listen to me, drinking in the right way is maybe even more important!! Please take a look to my article "Water-Centric Daily Healthy Feed Habit" :)

Thanks for sharing your personal experiences and moments ...appreciate that !!

But

Can we also get some insights into timelines for SMTs ?

Aha-a. Love it. xD

The body is wired to tell the brain what it needs. Food is a spiritual matter. Forcing it to partake of what it's not desirous of is an insult to the Spirit.

This is why people fail at 'diets', and end up gaining more than they lose.

Listen to what you're sparked to enjoy; and and feed the body accordingly. Of course, everything in moderation is key.

Yes, a slab of sauce-laden beef ribs with a slice of cake and vanilla shake may mean a few more minutes at the gym; but the yen is fed.

The worst thing a person can do is feed the body what it's not interested in.

Btw, I totally agree that meditation and fasting are crucial to not letting food be a god in life.

Peace.

It won't be a bad try, if the benefits are what you say they are, I think you should go ahead and grab those energies and the deity alike, sugars are good for energy but its negative effect can't be over emphasized. I think I should do it too. The benefits are great.

Let me introduce myself, I am @elfinarachmi, a medical doctor in nutrition specifically in Indonesia

Actually now I am learning and explore more any evidence based about keto diet. There are lots of benefits from this diet, especially for epileptic children or diabetic patients. But the composition of fat ,should be choosen a good fat, not bad fat like saturated or trans fat. And you should do medical and laboratorium check up routinely. And should be in medical supervision, because this is not self diet, but undersupervision diet. To avoiding any side effect of organ to face the changing of metabolic in the body.

Thank you Mr @ned , hopefully could be useful information. Happy Idul Fitri from me 37C63E1C-3614-4363-AF3F-9D909998B51A.jpeg

Keto is here to stay. It has literally helped stave off family members that were in a pre-diabetic stage. It can easily become a fantastic lifestyle.. not a self depriving fad diet. I have never ate better and got to unleash my inner creative chef.

in my university time I was in weightlifting I was commonly sent to eat a diet very estrana in fat after I knew that the diet was called keto. The diet was based on the consumption of fat regulated with protein and calbohydrate. little difficult since I am not a lover of fat but because of my training as an athlete I had to do it.
Doing a diet is very difficult but not impossible

I have a good friend who's lost a lot by means of keto and lots of exercise. She told me about it last summer (when she started) and she really likes the lifestyle change.

Thanks @ned - glad I am following you because you've always got something good! :)

Try to induce autophagy by keeping intermittent fasting for 36 hrs. I do it now often. I feel more energetic now.

And I always post on Steemit whenever I do that

Good luck @Ned, it worked for me a few years ago. I lost 40 kilograms. Now I have started a ketolike diet called OMAD. Basically it is one meal a day. No carb counting just eat whatever you like in a 1 hour eating window and let everything digest in 23 hours. It frees my mind to not have to think about what I need to eat the whole day. And I drink water thee and coffee during the day.

It is a form of intermittent fasting like some mentioned before. Maybe it’s something to look into for you as well.

Hello @ned
I don't think this diet is correct. But it's your choice. The doctor should monitor your health. I know of a case when people after low-carb diets received kidney disease for life and the taste of acetone in the mouth. And they had to become vegans. Please be careful to this! And good luck!

Make sure if you're doing Keto that you pay attention to your kidneys. If it's like the atkins diet (Which it sounds like it is pretty similar) where it's basically no carbs and high protein it could make you more susceptible to kidney stones which sucks pretty bad. Well, unless you're into that sort of thing.

I've been interested in trying out this diet for awhile. Not sure if I could stick with it for more than a month or so though with the kinds of stress I have to deal with. It's pretty hard to even have a home cooked meal half of the week anymore. Good luck to you though on sticking with it, man.

Low-carb diets tend to get rid of excess water from the body. Because they lower insulin levels, the kidneys start shedding excess sodium, leading to rapid weight loss in the first week or two. Have a good day @ned.

Well they certainly are a lot of people on it, basically I heard it's a healthy diet, how long do you plan to be on it?

Yes, thats right! I do ketofastosis, fasting on ketosis. We have the community in Indonesia too, Ketofastosis Indonesia. Keto makes me less sleepy and less tired. Contrary if i consumed carbs, so easy tired and sleepy. And of course Keto helps so much people with bad healthy become much more getting better with very low sugar. Including obesitas.

You are going to have a rough few weeks on the keto flu, then a bunch of energy!

I'm really sorry you got sucked into that keto BS, so yeah, I really think you should take a look at this: https://steemit.com/food/@kevinsarpei/how-to-become-superhuman

Hey @ned first of all thank you for giving a wonderful world and an opportunity to grow together.
Maybe our busy CEO is also a cute human being not a robot all, so take few minutes for yourself too.
We together enjoying the keto.
Maybe we should rethink again that keto can be far better for not only the @ned our CEO but for all of us too.
With love and respect God bless you.
Let's make Steemit better and beautiful ketogenic together.
Good day dear.

Hey @ned, hope you're well! Please get into a state of ketosis and show the test results before promoting the diet! Not to be a debby downer but you're promoting a metabolic state that you're admitting to not having achieved yet. It's only fair considering you're looked up to as an influencer. Being in the spotlight isn't easy but you should feel a moral obligation to promote things you have experienced and can vouch for 🙏

I'm doing intermittent fasting on the recommended 16h cycle. Took some time to get used to but at the end very efficient.

I've been eating Keto Diet for a while, I'm feeling great, but you have to stick on it very long time until you have been going to Keto Adatation, After that your body will use fat fuel even though you eat carbs, I believe. But It's not too easy not too hard. I wish I would not been cheating LOL. I'd like its another benefit like helping with depression I believe. So Good Luck to you @ned stick on it. it will see many benefits. And do it the right way. Can't wait to see new @ned ...Oh plus do it with Intermitted fasting it will see many change.

I never knew about this before. I have been believing that myth that eating too much fat makes someone fat. The article on the shared link really explained it.There is an alternative energy source for the body while the body save glucose. I will love to try this and most especially because of memory improvement and energy saving. This is definitely my next research

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I love the keto state, good energy, clear mind, but the carb withdrawal can be brutal. Let us know how it goes!

I've never been able to sustain it, without getting graphic, it grinds my digestion to a halt.

Hey @whastup! Good to cross paths again today. Sorry to hear about your keto woes! I feel like I am at a space in life where I wanna ditch the fads and just be keen enough to know what my body needs and likely it's growing somewhere within walking distance-ish of where I steward land. But, i do think there's beauty in intermittent fasting, living within peaceful energy fields, Yoga, cardio, hiit LOL everyone is so uniquely composed!! Each person has a unique recipe to manifest the highest potential!

The first three days of carb withdrawal was a worthy challenge. Ha.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Fatty beef, and large quantities of butter, and then avocado, spinach, olives, some fatty tuna and salmon (no rice), solves the problem of carb withdrawal very nicely. Eating that all day. Tasty. @ned @whatsup

Well I never try it myself but my boyfriend try it and he eat a lot of fatty food and not much vegetables. But I have a look at your manu they are all look Yummy! make me very hungry and you have a lot of vegetables. Avocado one is my favourite. Anyway I saw that his body changing before he was vegan for 4 years and after Keto he is bigger probably because he got more protein. But he found it very difficult to digest and now he try fruitarian diet lol. For me I prefer go on the middle road just eat healthy and sometime eat something you enjoy to eat but not big quantities.

Steemit has all my daily posts on my keto/cold exposure biohack experiment in January 2017.
The torture yielded the result of losing ten POUNDS of body fat in just two weeks, with no weight training or cardio...
I'm trying out a 'testosterone elevating' supplement protocol right now, going in for the blood draw tomorrow morning to determine the results.
Good luck Ned!
When you're really hungry, try flexing your abs as hard as you can for as long as possible.
Worked for me 👍

My friend started ketobdiet from last20 days. He lost 8 kgs in 20 kgs.he was 94 and now he is 86.he will do daily swimming in the morning and take only protein and fat food without carbohydrate food.and every sunday he eats whatever he likes becasue it is a free day for every week.what is the weight of yours sir @ned and how much do u want to loss?

I believe all kinds of diet have more benefit to us, with very little disadvantages, if any. Ketosis is a good way of reserving glycogen and the need for that in our body is quite limitless.

Even a CEO needs to have his organs fueled up.

I am on a diet too, but KATO did not know

we evolved under keto.
carbs is a newcomer,
which causus type II diabetes.

Exactly right. I'll upvote in a day when I get my full voting power back.

Research suggests it's not carbs which cause type 2 diabetes at all. Type 2 diabetes is caused by both genetic vulnerability and high visceral fat which reduces insulin sensitivity (insulin resistance). Over time the pancreas eventually gives out.

The way to reduce the risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes is to keep body fat percentage low and to build muscle mass. Muscles can store glycogen (carbs) and this increased glycogen storage protects someone from becoming diabetic. Low body fat reduces insulin resistance particularly if visceral fat is low.

It is genetic where people gain fat but some people gain fat in the wrong areas making them insulin resistant easily. It's also the case that skinnyfat is an epidemic which leads to diabetes. I'm not Ned so what he does is up to him but I would suggest resistance training and tracking calories in a food diary until it becomes part of the routine. Carbs can be low or high and while it is true it is easier to lose weight with low carb it is not because low carb is healthier. Keto is just an alternative fuel source (ketones) and if people like to eat high fat foods then lower carbs becomes sensible.

For any of it to work calories have to be restricted which means being in a calorie deficit for most of the time.

You are going to have a rough few weeks on the keto flu, then a bunch of energy!

Hi sir , I have seen your keto menu .The pumpkin seeds, the brinjal slices and tomatoes and nuddles I often use as our diet in my kitchen. Thanks for the great updates ,because I feel very happy as the greatest person ,the CEO of this beautiful community @ned has prefered this diet as his favourable diet. Thanks, and wish you a very healthy and happy moments in your most busy dignified life.

i have never try keto but i have tried a lot of other diets. the key will always be balance and at the same time it's simple math. Your organism burns a x amount of calories per day so if you count what you eat there is no way not to lose weight. If you combined it with exercise it would be even better.

The reason why mostly everyone that follows a diet is gaining back the weight is that the initial diet wasn't for him, either he/she was missing the foods that liked, or portion were small etc etc The key again is balance. Find foods that you like, limit as much as you can food very high on fats and everything will be fine.

Otherwise keep eating! you only live once :P

Personally, I eat when Im hungry, sleep when Im tired and no doubt I'll die whe I die.
I'm not a naturally unhealthy eater anyway and I do exercise a little, for fun rather than out of a sense of duty.
I think we must all do what we believe suits ourselves.
The old adage still remains....

Everything in moderation!

Hey @ned, good ol' @papa-pepper tipped me off to this post of yours. My wife @essentialoilmom and I started Keto a year ago, about the same time we joined steemit it. My first few posts were about what we were eating.

We were very strict on it, keeping our carbs under 25 grams per day. We had heard about the keto flu, that sick state people can enter a few days in as their bodies start to detox, but neither of us experienced that. I did experience a few headaches but nothing major.

It wasn't long, a week maybe, and we were haveing to take potassium and magnesium to go to sleep because we had so much energy (me being 6ft tall and 330lbs when we started, I had lots of stored energy for my body to burn, thanks to a decade of truck driving)

Things were going good, I was losing about a pound a day and then we went out of town to vistit some friends for the weekend in Searcy Arkansas and a monkey wrench got thrown in to our plan. They wanted to take us for Hibachi since my wife and I had never had it, and we decided to "treat" ourselves and eat non keto foods like the rice and the "yum yum sauce.". Well let me tell you, that was some REALLY good rice, so good infact it derailed our keto journey. It knocked us both out of ketosis. My wife felt sick and sluggish for a few days.

We got back on Keto a few days later and got back to feeling better but then just few weeks later we had ANOTHER out of town trip, this time to Beaumont Texas and we ended up going off keto for the whole weekend. It was just easier that way while eating out. This derailed us yet again, only this time much worse. We didn't get right back on Keto. We struggled to get to the level of intensity we were at when we first started. I was 330 when we started, I was down to 298 when we got derailed. I ended up gaining a bunch back over several months, getting back up to 328 before we decided to hit it again. This time around we are not being nearly as strict as before, we are not losing as fast as before but if there happens to be that circumstantial meal of convenience it doesn't affect us nearly as bad.

Here are my tips for you.

  1. Go hard and go strong for as long as you can, don't cheat, you'll regret it.
  2. Try intermittent fasting if you hit a plateau. I've made intermittent fasting a norm by skipping breakfast. I eat dinner between 6-8 pm and don't eat again til after 10am.
  3. Try to find lifestyle changes in the diet that you can do even if you go off keto. That will help you not gain back so quickly if you do goboff. One thing for me, is using liquid stevia and heavy whipping cream in my coffee instead of milk and sugar.
  4. Don't forget your supplements! You will most likely need magnesium to sleep and potassium for headaches.
  5. Stay away from pork and pork products. It's such an inferior meat compared to beef or venison. This is about fueling your body, you wouldn't put 87 octane in a Boeing 747 would you?

Well I gotta get back to bed. Gotta be up in an hour for work. Best wishes on your keto journey sir.

Go for it @ned. You have just motivated me to try it too. The power of a CEO. I guess 😄

I heard about keto diet when i had joined in a gym 6 months back. I tried to stick to this diet but for many reasons i quit.

  1. Many of the times, it seems to be routine, tasteless and ofcourse costly.
  2. As a student i get a little pocket money, i can’t fix to this diet for a long time.

My suggestion for students and busy people like you who can’t spend much time for selecting your food and cooking, its better to have eggs daily. Controlling your carbo diet.
It will definelty helps us to reduce weight and gives adequate energy.

Thanks for you menu sir @ned. I will try to follow that diet.

It was a best choice to “defrag” your body. I have been keto warrior since a year ago. Welcome to the club @ned ;)

@ned WoW, the best investment is in yourself :) Best wishes to you always. :D

Living healthy is always a good plan :-)

I haven't ever made any diet in my life which is probably due to the fact that I love doing sports. After a surf session my body automatically asks for the healthy food, so it's not even a sacrifice to refuse the pizza then :-)

I personally think that extreme diets are overrated and nutritional balance rather means that you don't limit yourself but eat in moderation.

Have you considered doing little portions of sports every morning instead of a diet? The advantage is the long-lasting effect. While you might suffer a yoyo-effect after stopping the diet, sports will strenghthen your body in the long term. Then you can even enjoy carbs, and still feel great.

Have a good day

Some of my friends are doing Keto, and they lose weight easily...
They do it to cure some diseases like cancer & diabetes...but after months of doing it, their diseases not yet cured...
So, i thought keto is best for those who want to lose weight rapidly...😀☕

Have a lovely day, dear friend @ned...☕❤

I'm 3 weeks in and feeling great.
Probably down around 5kg (I try to stay off the scales).
I've noticed my portion sizes have shrunk, too.
My stomach tells my head its full before I've had a chance to chew my way through all that protein.

Find a good chevapchichi and you'll never look back.

If you're on a high-cholesterol diet, you risk developing gallstones. I know someone who spent months on a ketogenic diet and had to have gallstones removed as a result.

CEO himself. Thats good to know.

Since I'm on the journey to change a few things in my life I have done some research about keto diet and one of my friends is on it for a long time. It sounds good and make sense but you must have discipline in that and also buy a good quality products which I can't afford at this moment but sooner or later I will give it a try for sure :)

CEO himself. Thats good to know.

Dude, I've been doing it since 2013, wrote 3 books on the subjects (while in ketosis). Mental clarity, constant energy and mood, and the lack of hunger (though enjoying food when I'm eating) are the top benefits that I've made it a lifestyle.

Thank you for sharing! Is it difficult to adhere to? Do restaurants have enough options for the diet?

I'm interested in the idea of Keto. My brother has had great success with it, losing close to 20 pounds already. He lives on meat and cheese and is quite happy.

I tend to follow a mostly vegan diet myself. Do you think it is easily possible to combine a vegan diet with Keto? From the times I've tried to cook for my brother, the vegetables are severely limited, as are the starches. Without animal product, it seems like I'd have to survive on nothing but nuts with an occasional veggie thrown in for color.

Hey @ned i am having issues with my cover image not displaying do you have any idea why this is happening or how i can fix this?

Diet keto, just do not diet crypto. Ha

you do well ... you look fat...lol

a humble gift @ned

Well, I'm glad you still have time from your busy schedule to prepare those stuff. In Nigeria where I'm from, such diet hardly work out.. We just eat what we see, live our life and pray those same food we eat don't shorten our lifespan.

Maybe @melodyrussell can give you some insite into this!

Hey @ned, I have kind of gone the opposite to you with a plant-based diet. I have been very happy with the results. I have lost weight, have more energy, my allergies have almost cleared up, and no animals need to die for my food. I strongly recommend that you give it a try

You can be Keto and plant based easily. Avocados, nuts, etc.

This is a diet program recommended by the medical. Diet keto can relieve symptoms of seizures ( epilepsy ) . Thank to the article. this is very good. Captain @ned

A problem: You will dehydrate at first . . . causing horrible dry mouth. Get some dry mouth - mouthwash.
I ended up a part-time rabbit. Not 100% vegetarian; but, lots of salads . . . not hungry and full of energy. (Some lady looked at my food basket today and asked if I was a gorme' cook. So that will happen.) May as well give up cheese and olive oil. They will rob you of energy and put you to sleep. ( A Keto's friend is fat . . . it pulls you in. In the end you have to give up all fats. You will not mind, by then you will know how to cook.)

You don't have to stick with Keto for months on end, you can come in and out of it. I start by having butter in my tea in the morning and not eating all day until the evening where I will eat a salad with some olives and fish. By the next morning I'm in Keto. Good luck mate

Here was the game changer for me:

I started doing the intermittent fasting coupled with keto.
I don't eat until about noon or 1pm.

It's pretty liberating not having to worry about breakfast and it feels really clean. I feel like I'm running on high grade fuel.

Clean Method is the Key ;) https://www.cleanprogram.com/

Hey @ned. Ive been on a keto diet for several years. I call it mediterranean diet instead. It works because I can maintain it. There are so many diet fads nowadays but really it's all about the calories. Think of your body as a wallet, the more u put in there, the bigger it gets. When u spend, the leaner it gets. It's not a diet, it is a lifestyle.

I also tried keto and found I felt great, and looked great. I haven't been able to keep up with it lately, but I'll give it another go soon.

If the goal is weightloss then the only thing that really matters in my experience are caloric control. If the goal is fatloss then high protein within a calorie deficit. Keto is fine if protein is high enough and resistance training is added to it at a calorie deficit.

I have a friend who lost more than 20 pounds with this diet. It's not that hard to succeed, there are plenty of keto recipes, including sweets (you can use Stevia).

Good luck!!

@ned I hope you do well and reach your goals with this diet. Like everything else in life if you have a good plan you will make it.

I am trying to convert my diet to a more reasonable one. The bread meat and potatoes are not cutting it as I get older.

One thing I can recommend if you are not doing it. 100% ORGANIC. We have been living that way for about 5 years and the only time any of us got sick was when we tried to prepare for a overseas trip. We ate GMO, pesticide laden food for two days. We were all sick, everyone for 3 days. NEVER again.

If you don't know about it. Check out Azurestandard we meet a 18 wheeler once every 4 weeks to pick up most of our organic food.

I love this thing you've been doing with the thumbail, looks really nice with the signature; might steal it someday ;)

Not the signature the idea.

@ned a vegan diet is much more accessible to the average human in the world. Promoting a keto diet is very dangerous because their is no way to sustainable raise the amount of animals necessary. ie. one person doing keto is bad enough for the environment, but when that one person gets 50 more people to fuck up the environment by eating meat; that is dangerous behavior for society. The science is all pointing towards a plant based vegan diet over keto for health too.

How did you feel when you first started the diet? Also, is it hard to maintain when being so busy?

The first part of it sucks honestly till your body adjusts and starts hitting that ketosis level you want day in and day out. Once you hit this you will feel more energized be less hungry etc but you really have to stick with it cuz you can easily throw yourself off on ketosis.

But yup many entrepreneurs like myself are big on it and it does seem to work for everyone I know. Keeps your mind focused and on edge which is a nice added benefit!

Think about when you feel starving your normally alert and pretty awake however as soon as you eat a ton of food you normally want to take a nap. Well instead your giving it just enough to not feel hungry but stay in that state of alertness just before you eat. Its pretty bad ass :D

I'll keep this simple, my experience is good
